https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67549886 In theory I'm sure it sounds like a very good idea. However we've all seen what an absolute shambles the authorities have made with VAR. Is this going to help, or is it just another thing to get wrong and add confusion to the game? While I agree with the idea of sin-binning, I just have zero faith in their ability to implement it consistently.
Spot on, consistency is the key, and we have seen all too well how referees deal with the offence differently
It in principle sounds a good idea. VAR has hardly been a success thus far, so I don't think we should necessarily move for this quickly.
Agreed. Personally i'd go much further. I'd say VAR has been a disaster. I think they need to prove they can get the current laws right, before adding new ones.
My knowledge of rugby is not great, growing up in "tarn" rugby was rarely a subject I considered growing up. I watched some Rugby League on telly as a kid, as it was televised & the teams were local. I have enjoyed trying to understand the complex rules of Rugby Union, watching with friends from time to time as an older bloke. They seem to do refereeing better, in that there is more respect for the refs largely, than in most football, other than the women's game. I think the vast amount of money in the top divisions is the real problem here. It is filtering down to L1, which seems to be about our level as a football club.
So we are giving the officials more tools to improve their standards.......what could possibly go wrong!
1 ref, two linos, and a bloke riding a giant drone who drops an anvil on anyone feigning injury or dissenting to the ref. Simple solution to it all really. Don’t need this VAR stuff.
I also read that they are expanding the use of VAR next year to other incidents, including second yellow cards. Three hour games coming up.
