Agree - from my viewpoint in the ground it also looked like Cole missed one gilt-edged chance and maybe another in the first half. So, if our finishing had been more efficient we could quite easily have walked away from that with something like a 4-0 win. I know Wycombe were rubbish and we still looked shaky at the back but it was the right result in the end.

You spent all last night wanting him sacked.

I still can't believe the surprise that a freezing cold evening game against the biggest shithouses in the league was a bit dull. It was never going to be an expansive 6-0 masterclass.

    Its Wycombe.

That's twice in two games that removing Styles has resulted in an instant transformation. It should be no surprise as it's essentially us going from 10 men to 11. Styles is so ineffectual it's akin to being a man down. Any contribution he makes is almost exclusively detrimental, leaving us exposed as he gives the ball away or shirks a challenge.

Any change is a change for the better but we've actually got good options: Connell sat in front of the defence with Kane and Phillips ahead of him or Connell and Kane/Phillips in a two with McAtee behind a front two containing Cosgrove. To be honest, a midfield containing any 3 from Connell, Kane, McAtee, Phillips or Russell is a significant improvement. Although I'd always include Connell as one of those. I see no reason for Styles to even make the bench.

Up front I believe the best option is Cosgrove plus one other and I don't believe that the other should be McAtee who should only be considered a midfield player.

As for the game, the first hour was very dull, although we were never in any trouble. The last half hour we played very well. We really should have grabbed a couple of goals before the eventual winner. Not sure how Williams missed that header.

exactly how I see it. I still think Collins should be sacked though. I don’t think he’s adding anything extra.

I'm surprised it was given to be honest, his reaction after scoring, walking back etc suggested he thought it was going to be disallowed.

I'll just say this- if the boot had been on the other foot there would've been a total meltdown on here! :D

Styles is a myth, touted as one of the best midfielders in the league by some on here at the start of the season. I'm not sure how he still keeps getting picked at 1st I thought it was to put him in the shop window but they won't be queuing up from what I've seen.
Cosgrove was good last night probably should have scored before he did but that's the 1st time we have seen him been effective. I'd like to see him have a run of games now.

You witness many òccasions in every game where players receive a feather touch in their back and throw themselves to the floor expecting to be given a foul.

Whilst this ref was generally very poor, he did not give these on many occasions last night, resulting in several scrambles for the ball with a player laid on the floor.

There was plenty of warning for the idiot keeper that this ref would not give a foul when you throw yourself to the floor expecting one.

I have to agree with this. I'm glad it was given for the shithousery of the team and especially the goalie. Would I have wanted a foul if it was against us, I'd have to say yes. But am a bovvered. Am I fekk. 3pts, happy days.
As poor as we were. Wycombe should be kicked out of the league for putting playing football into disrepute. Worst game I've seen.
    Barnsley v Wycombe 20/21

    Barnsley v Wycombe 23/24
    Both dog s41te.
I do get where the Wycombe fans are coming from. It sounds as the goalie is not well liked. And that was the icing on the cake re criticism and for him to be dropped. Or got shut of.

I’d have to see the foul on De Gevigney again but other than that I thought the ref was brilliant.

I hate how the modern game is full of players shielding the ball & flopping to the floor at the faintest of touches.

The referee made it perfectly clear he wasn’t having any of it from both sides throughout the game. Several times Cotter tried it & didn’t get fouls & then McAtee nearly put us in danger trying it in the middle of the pitch facing his own goal leading to a counter attack so no one involved with Wycombe can say that the ref wasn’t consistent. He’d made his intentions clear all night not to fall for play acting. Ultimately the keeper was an idiot & I’d imagine their manager, Scowen & a few others will have told him that in the dressing room afterwards.

Dreadful game, right result, no foul on the 'keeper for the goal. Had Ben Killip made the same error, he would've been slaughtered on here with no suggestions of a foul.

He's never been one of the best midfielders in the league. Not even close. Not sure where that opinion has come from, apart from Callum himself. He won all his plaudits for us playing at LWB under Val - even had PL clubs sniffing round, if memory serves. The move to midfield might well have earned him some caps for Hungary, but it's killed his club career stone dead.

Exactly, I don’t know how he managed to convince the club that he should be played in the middle. I never watched him for Millwall so I can’t comment on how he played there for them but I can’t remember him ever having a good game for us from the middle. He was outstanding at wing back and scored a fair few goals from there. The club has definitely bent over for him to move him into the middle.
