The decline of the club continues because of mismanagement and poor recruitment and selling. Its small steps all the time but the club IS in decline at the moment. Nothing raised at the fans forum the other evening addressed the point. Instead we were mesmerised by fanzones and by irate people bemoaning lack of standing at the ground. As someone has said on another post the most important thing about a FOOTBALL club is, unsurprisingly, the football served up. It has regressed again. Its sterile. The manager is either not up to the task or the players as a collective are not up to the task. Or both. Either way we are on a downward spiral because of that poor management I mentioned. The recruitment of cheap 'potentials' and the firesale every season of the better players has meant the playing side is gradually becoming weaker. Unless there is more stability and a better attitude/focus on recruitment/retention and selling quality players the situation will continue to deteriorate. The current coach is part of the problem in my opinion as it look like he can't motivate or get a sustained pattern of positive, tight play out of the players. But, he's not the root cause of the problem. The board, in spite of some cash injection, are making bad decisions about the football side and thus the club is continuing to decline. There may be a point where this decline bottoms out but the prospect of L2 after this season is not unrealistic unless the playing side is not addressed more effectively. Think about the quality of squads we have had in the past - even two or three seasons ago - and I think it proves my point. Sorry to post this but I wanted a moan. No doubt some will disagree.
Spot on. If the club's MO weren't designed to constantly weaken the team then we might put up with an uncomfortable stadium with access difficulties and parking arrangements that would embarrass a village team. As it is, there appears little prospect of progress on the field or off it. There was nothing the other night to suggest that there is any coherent vision going forward.
The now annual sale of the better players and head coach to any reasonable offer despite it being detrimental to the club has now become the norm. No ambition so we are where we deserve to be.
Think the fact we sold some players for decent amounts and then replaced from non league and ready for the task speaks volumes.
I dread to see a decent player step on the field at Oakwell as I know they'll quickly become a memory. In and out players go, the rich owners line their pockets whilst us fans sit in the damp cold with our stale pukka pies to wash the $hit football down.
Very interesting, I'm Spartacus! I note the timing of your post! What are your views on the way the club is being run, and it's prospects of success under the present regime?
