May have been posted already, but quite clearly, they see the defence as a weakness. https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/a...tre-backs-and-expect-stars-to-stay-in-january I’d agree with this - I think this is what is holding the team back, lack of time and trust with the back line, which is reflected in Collins’ approach and tactics at times…..
Are we being tickled a bit tho.....Coventry had just received over £25m in player sales and Luton had the Prem riches for income, surely neither of them needed prolonged payment terms and couldn't really justify them if they'd been pressed.
It's really bad business practice that we have let so many first team regulars reach the last six months of their playing contracts.
The board allowed it to be weakened in the summer by selling quality and recruiting punts and not for the first time. The fact the defence is poor and the manager can't improve it is down to the board they sanctioned the sales and the recruitment of players and Collins is their choice.
I know I said we wouldn't sell so and so but the money offered was too much to turn down. Just cos we sold so and so doesn't mean we can use any of that money to buy players ourselves. That's not how it works. In fact, there is no money. The deal was structured in a way where we don't actually get any, but like I say, too good to turn down. Oh yes, when we sell players in January the money we get will go into the pot to buy more players, just like when we sold so and so. It's just word salad. Meaningless garbage.
It's not as though they haven't had the same situation happen before. What happened to learning from your mistakesl?
Both presumably are also receiving payments in installments. I thought most transfers happen like that these days. I forget who said it (maybe Gauthier Ganaye), but this situation came up a few years ago, I believe around the time we sold Kieffer Moore.
Defence has been weakened obviously, but it's not what has been holding us back. The biggest weakness by far is in creative midfield & should be the number 1 priority, assuming we do keep hold of our stars. If we can plug that gap, our defence (& attack) will benefit & be proven good enough to win promotion at this level.
Staged payments are normal - all clubs are the same including top 6 PL sides. Of course Neerav is going to play it up - that’s what a business man will do - will always say we’ve got nothing. My point on the article, is that I do believe Collins’ has been hampered by the back-line. I’m not saying it excuses some of the poor performances, but a new keeper, back line and Connell missing all season is a massive defensive hit, and it does affect how you set up/see out games. It was the Kitching deal that cost us - the rest were known about long before. And perhaps the one we wanted in at that short notice to replace him couldn’t be sorted in time. January will show us more I reckon.
err and too many players seemingly incapable of putting the ball in the net, doesn't leave much does it?
We sell our players with clubs paying instalments so surely we buy players through instalments too? We 100% need to sort the central defence out. Whether that’s another Bobby Thomas loan or a slightly older head coming in. We need someone to dominate back there.
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-barnsley/vertragsende/verein/349 Another big rebuild next summer when we lose an handful of first team regulars for the sum of zero pounds.
Already confirming we have no interest in buying the quality to get us out of this league. The fans aren't as dumb as he likes to take us for.
For me there seems to be way too much excusing poor performances on selling our defence. That doesn't explain how god awful our midfield is or how poor we are up front but it is being used as a way to excuse everything wrong at bfc. Sorry we are so **** but we sold the defence because offers were too good. We can't buy anyone though because the offers were so bad.
Oh they'll buy us players to get us out of this league alright just they will be of a quality that takes us down rather than up.
I agree that our priority should be a creative midfield player in January, though that may all depend on whether Styles moves on or not. I actually think that a fully fit Luca Connell SHOULD also help us get more out of Phillips, Styles and Kane. A centre half with a bit of pace is second.
It shouldn't matter at all whether styles is still here because frankly he's **** and always has been.
