Well done to him. The only part that irks me is these players are being scouted by bigger clubs in spite of hardly playing for our first team. Hence, in someone's opinion higher up than Barnsley they must be better players than we have in our first team?
Being potentially better doesn't mean they're ready for 1st team football. What irks me is the big clubs hoovering up talent that's unlikely to get anywhere near the first team because 1 in 10 will, destroying the other 9 careers in the process. I suspect if we offer Yoganathan and Jalo new deals with a clear pathway into the first team then they'll sign. Far better for their careers than several more years of development level football with a few pizza cup group games thrown in.
Clubs higher up the pyramid scouting a 17 year old to add to their youth setup is neither unusual nor an indication they should be in the first team. They’re not (allegedly, we don’t actually know it’s true) showing interest with a view of throwing them into their first teams. In his particular case, he’s shown promise and some ability but I’m it convinced he’s ready for League One football. Certainly not to start or be first choice sub; maybe the odd brief cameo to start with. Jalo, yes, he is ready in my view. He’s also being scouted by many - but again, I’m not convinced the likes of Benfica would be showing interest with a view to him starting games straight away; they’re just layering for their future.
I could see that irking you if it was someone like Josh Benson, or Robbie Cundy. But Vimal Yoganathan is 17, and won't be being scouted for their first team.
Couldn't care less to be honest. I've seen Benson is crap and Cundy hasn't had a fare crack along with Mccarthy so in a sense I'd be disappointed with those last two. The reason it irks me is. If they leave they'll have been no benefit to Barnsley other than financial.
Exactly. I wouldn't believe anything I read on there unless, as they often do, it's regurgitating a proper local journalist's article.
Strangely enough, I rate this lad higher than Jalo ATM. They both have lots of work to do on their games but in terms of an all round player, Yoganathan looks a fantastic prospect. I think if Jalo is to succeed and go on to big things, IMO his biggest test will be strength on the ball. It does already look like the club have bulked him up somewhat from when he first appeared on the scene, but with a noticeable impact on his pace and there will be a fine balance in getting this correct. Reckon they will both have great futures in the game, just think Yoganathan edges it at present time. Would be fantastic if in a couple of years these 2 are still at Oakwell and starting to really shine. Add to that, another youngster Bland looks to have quality about him but he is staying under the radar not having as much 1st team exposure.
I'm guessing my autocorrect probably already knew that. The information was delivered to it through the microchip in my Covid jab.
From wiki "Ranganathan is known by his middle name, Romesh. He did not find out until he started school that his first name, as stated on his birth certificate, was Jonathan. During his live show, Irrational, Ranganathan recalled that his parents explained to him that this was because they were concerned his name would otherwise sound too "ethnic" when applying for jobs as an adult."
So they gave him a tongue-twister instead. I haven't tried it, but I imagine saying "Jonathan Ranganathan" over and over again at high speed makes "she sells seashells" seem like a walk in the park.
