Does that mean it's quicker to go through Goldthorpe or round Thurnscoe or wait at these traffic lights?

Depends on time of day mate.
I go to Donny around 6:15 every morning and go on the bypass as hardly any queues at the lights. But coming back to Barnsley around 5pm I drop down into Thurnscoe Industrial Estate to dodge the lights.

Unless it’s rush hour it’s quicker to go over the bypass. The lights cover only a really small section, maybe 200 yards, where the car was burnt out under the flyover. It clears pretty quickly.

Anyone from the Dearne Valley read “The Valley” by Richard Benson? I’m reading it at the moment and it’s really strange reading about people having a drink in the Halfway at Highgate or the Cora in Thurnscoe, places where I regularly made an ass of myself in the early 70s. We always went to the Halfway on Sundays cos there was a band on….

It also mentioned the Westermans who ran Highgate club (still do I think), they lived next door to mi grandma…
