Brilliant picture. ya can see a brick structure at the back, it had a flat concrete top and in the early 70's we used to climb up and sit on it..
That picture is frankly one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen in my life. Brings back so many fantastic memories.
This is an 'original' photo. It blew a bigger gale when the buggers drove two dirty great holes through the back in the 80's! Stopped being quite the pleasure of earlier years.
Lovely photo that. I can still see me and my Dad stood near the barrier between the Ponty and West stand. It'll be 2 years next week since he departed us. RIP Dad. Gone but not forgotten xx
Nice post. Interesting terminology we've got used to now. Would never have referred to the 'West Stand' back in the day.
Can you remember the 20 West ham fans bang in the middle of the ponty. I've never seen the ponty empty so quick !!!!. Must admit I was first to leg it.
I remember that. They came in from the Terrace. I was 14 and having a couple of beers with a mate. We were so pissed we couldn't run away! Lightweight I know.
The back wall looks like brick in that. I remember the thunderous banging on that wall that I always remember being corrugating metal sheeting.
Does anyone remember the muckstack at the back of the Ponty that you had to descend at the end of the game down into the corner behind the floodlight at the Brewery stand side? Proper death trap. I remember an old guy going flying down there after one game, probably mid to late 70s. No health and safety and claims back then!
Ha ha. It had worn down so much over they years that you could walk under the crash barriers ....without bending down!!
My fondest memory was everyone standing at the back watching Kipper throwing things off the refreshment kiosk rather than watch the game
