Unfortunately not a new centre back, but in fact an Italian dog breed. Just read an article about a recent surge in interest for this mastiff breed, in the wake of the Bully XL ban. What is it about some people I wonder, that they feel the need to have such a huge, powerful, potentially lethal dog?

I genuinely wasn't having a go btw. Was a straight question. It just baffles me why someone would take the risk of having such a potentially dangerous dog, when there are so many breeds out there that are far less risky...and that's before we get onto the hugely questionable practices of dog breeding.

I know you weren't mate. My attempt at humour. All dogs have certain breed traits. These are generally suppressed but are still there on some level. My dog would lick you to death but it's a guarding breed. she doesn't like people standing in shadows at night and I've told friends not to let themselves into my house any more as I'm not sure how she'd react. You can also generally make a dog whatever you want it to be, within reasonable parameters of the breed. Interestingly the cops don't use german shepherds anymore because they've lost their aggressive edge with being pets. The problem with fighting breeds/cross breeds is they are still directly descended from fighting dogs or dogs owned by idiots. I also think its the type of people who buy them. It's definitely a bit of both.

They are lovely intelligent dogs but are very very protective of their owners which can cause problems if they think they are under threat.
God help us all if there is a ever a dog with the hardware of a cane corso and the neurotic software of a Chihuahua. I once met an English bull terrier and we play wrestled for a while. I have to say there is something appealing about such a solid, slab of a dog. Like a excitable log. Remember also that many people rescue these huge breeds so even if it is right to judge someone by their choice of dog it's not always as simple as it seems. Having a thirteen year old sheepdog who ate all the pies I know how the missus and kid cannot lift him into the car now he cannot jump himself. I have no idea how this works for the enormous breeds when they get older. You'd need to fit a davit to the back of the car.
