Linked to Hull and Birmingham today according to Nixon. He's not usually right but this time I hope he is as he's been poor this season and rather invest the money into players that want to be here.
‘Invest the money into players that want to be here’… like we have with the Mads, Kitching, Collins, Duff, Stones Champions League clause money you mean? That’s the only problem we have….
Styles is an odd one. I personally don't think he's been as poor as many say. I just think there's an expectation around him now he's a regular at international level, and he had a year at the level above last season. Of course, he hasn't met that expectation, but the squad overall is stronger with him in it. That being said, if the right offer comes in for him, he's one we can afford to sell. We're covered both in midfield and at left wing back if he goes, and presuming the release clause is as high as is rumoured, we can afford to bring in someone else to cover at lwb/cm.
Whether you're happy with the recruitment or not, you can't say we haven't spent the money. We've replaced all of the names you've mentioned. Whether what we've replaced them with is good enough is another question.
Highly doubt this is true, probably just his agent touting his name about to see if he can drum up any interest. Can’t see any Championship club taking a punt, he’s clearly not good enough, he wasn’t good enough for Millwall last season. We might be better off hoping he goes abroad, maybe a Hungarian club could come in for him.
I’m not desperate for him to stay as he seems to want to go and it wouldn’t be a huge disaster for the team if we were to lose him this month, we have decent players in his positions already - but I agree that some folk see what they want with Styles. He has been far from our worst performer this season. He was getting pelters at half time the other day against Carlisle for example - yet it was the other wing back on the day, O’Keeffe, who was absolutely dreadful. That was hardly mentioned. I do wonder if there is a preconceived agenda with him for some. I’m not suggesting he’s been great, but he hasn’t been as awful as some would have you believe. Whilst the first XI isn’t hugely weakened without him; if at all, we would need cover at left wing back for Cadden should Styles move on. Potentially centre mid too as Russell hasn’t shown much, I’ve no idea how far away Benson and Wolfe are from fitness - and they have flattered to deceive anyway.
Well I'd say with the amount of players we have in the squad and our board putting money in twice yearly.. I'd say its vital we sell him for as much as we can.. If Neerav JAQ with her faceless backers get fed up and see us as a hindrance. Well end up like Reading..
I can't remember where I heard or read it, but supposedly Ferencvaros were interested in him in the summer. There's not as much money sloshing around over there though for them to meet our valuation.
If the rumours of the release clause being upwards of £2m are true, and someone meets it, then it’s good business. We do need to cash out at a profit sometimes, nature of the beast. If not, he stays. And he’s a very decent player at this level. He’s not reached the heights this season, but then again neither has Phillips, Cadden, Connell, Williams, O’Keeffe……… and there isn’t daily threads on here ripping them to shreds. If he does go, we need bodies in. Cover / competition for Cadden, and I would argue another midfielder. Russell has been poor and frankly I’ve given up on Benson and Wolfe ever having a run of games without breaking down. It’s interesting many of the “get shut” / “I’ll drive him there myself” brigade also moan when we sell players “on the cheap”. Probably been guilty of it myself at times. Such is life.
Nixon? I wonder how many times he’s said Styles is off? He’s stealing a living from fools who give him oxygen
Nobody, not even Val at Watford (supposedly), was previously willing to meet the release clause in a busy transfer window. There’s even less reason to believe anyone will meet it now
Is that the same Millwall that wanted to sign him, but just weren’t prepared to pay our valuation of him?
I agree, he's been labelled since the Wilderness years after Val, and is never going to shake that reputation in the eyes of many, I think he should go though - for his own sake, who could blame him?
Its our fringe players that we need to be getting rid of to free up money not our best ones and It would be great to watch him play at the euros as a Barnsley player
I'd be actively trying to get rid. For what I'd assume he costs us in wages he is one of our weaker players in every position we try him so shouldn't really be starting games and as a sub I think we can get much better value for money elsewhere
If nobody meets the valuation he stays. Think on, if cadden doesn't sign a new contract and we push styles out .. then next season we have nobody for the left side of midfield I'd prefer both of them to stay tbh
