I will second that mate, I sit in ESL, I can’t remember last time I heard a racist comment/remark

I don’t think anyone is pretending it’s not a problem, thankfully it’s few and far between ( at Oakwell) compared to what it used to be like. Once is too many but some on this thread saying we can’t criticise or call it out when it happens elsewhere because it still happens at Oakwell is plainly thick

I can’t say I recall hearing any racism where I sit in ESU, but I’m in family stand so it’s the last place I would expect to hear it.

It’s absolutely rife at away games though.

I sit in ESL. Can't remember hearing any racist stuff. For donkeys years. that's not to say it doesn't happen or it never happened. The odd black B. Probably over 20/30 yrs ago. Individuals may be out of earshot. And at away games either. not heard any for many a moon. Plenty of abuse though.

There was a fair amount where I used to sit - ESL gangway near the away end. Quite depressing really. I reported plenty to various stewards but in the end gave up cos they weren't bothered about having any confrontations.

Have barely been this year, so can't speak for the past 5 months though.

Again it’s not few and far between. Pretty every match I have attended at Oakwell still has elements of racism. We can criticise others but at the same time we are one of the worst grounds for racism. Both can be true

I sat in the family stand for the Horsham game and whilst I didn't hear anything racist, the language on offer all the way through the game would have made a docker blush.

Every week in the East Stand. It’s why I’m not in there anymore. Weirdly Ponty has far less.

when we took it into our own hands it stopped around us.

I haven't seen anyone on this thread suggesting that racism can't be called out when it happens. I would hope that racism is called out at each and every occasion it raises its pig ugly head.

What I think a lot of people, myself included, are suggesting on here is that the general broad brush association of Wednesday fans as being 'all vile' is plainly nonsense. We can all be partisan in football terms about our not very well liked neighbours. But suggesting a whole fan base is 'vile' because of isolated fans behaviour is off the mark. As I said earlier, Wednesday fans are just ordinary folk, most of whom would absolutely agree that racism is vile and would want it called out. They are not different, they are just like thee and me, they just happen to support Wednesday which is a cross they have to bear. But for my part, I'd be a bit annoyed about it if some opposition fan said 'those Barnsley fans, they are all vile' because of an incident with one of our racists because I am not like them and would cross the street to avoid them any other day of the week. We might just happen to support the same club but I would still call them a racist moron and would not want to be tarred with the same brush.

Certainly wasn't on the terrace as I remember. Can't speak for that side of the ground. But as I say. Not in earshot or visual anyway.

I don't know where you sat in East Upper, but I have sat for years near the halfway line and near the back of East Upper, and I have never heard any racist remarks from anyone near me.

I was comparing on how it used to be far more widespread. I still maintain it isn’t nowhere near as that. Again, once is too often.

If one of these muppets took their child to hospital with a life threatening condition and the only doctors available to provide treatment were black, would they decline their child treatment?

Someone posted about ‘glasshouses’ meaning we shouldn’t call others because it happens at our ground, which is total ******. I find it strange that the vile subject of racism against our ‘fans’ is only raised and even pounced upon by some on here (as in this thread) when we dare to condemn others.

Why is the first thing race though? And if they don't mean anything by it it is easy to stop themselves doing it. There are no excuses, he's got 3 young children how would they feel seeing their Dad being gestured to like that at the match?
