Why was MW chosen over SC today? A think Cosgrove’s looked better these last few weeks, for all I’ve tried to defend him this season the lads just not cutting at the moment, a think a loan would maybe help get his confidence back.

A think Collins got it wrong today, with how weak our midfield was it needed someone like Cosgrove staring to play a long ball to feed off, every time the defence got the ball there was no outlet which caused us to hit and hope…….

Watters was such an odd signing. There can’t be many transfer fees and 3 year contracts handed out after such an indifferent loan spell

It was a 4 year contract. Even more mind boggling. As we finally get shut of the Belgian buns we’re lumbered with Watters for 4 years.
People say offload him…..to who exactly?

3 years plus a year option. But the point still stands, we’re stuck with him

A lot of people thought his loan spell was decent. Especially his goal contributions per 90 instead of just outright apperances

Did a lot of people think he was worth a transfer fee and long contract? For all his contributions per 90, he still ended up as 4th choice striker last season and only came on in the play off final when we’d virtually run out of players

I thought he was a better option than Tedic last season, and wasn't as bad as some say during his loan.
And seeing as he'd already played for us, I hoped he'd sort of hit the ground running this season, rather than needing time to settle down etc.
Does this mean we're stuck with him for 2 more seasons, after this one ends ?.

Both Watters and Tedic were poor last season. The best two strikers last season were Cole and Norwood. The best striker in pre-season was Norwood. Not worth a 2 year deal though, cos he has no resale value. What resale value are we expecting on Watters, Cosgrove and Dallas? Same as Norwood I’d imagine. Except without the goals or performances.

Well that goes without saying Gordon, obviously Cole and Norwood were our best two, that's not in doubt here.
And I'd be interested to know what Devante himself thought about James' departure, especially as it happened just before the season started.
And I also think this refusing to sign players because of no resale value, is an absolute disgrace!.

It would be if it was true, but we have signed players either permanent and even on loans with no resale value.
So whilst it’s clear their preferred method is to sign players with future potential to say they refuse is not true.

I commented recently that I think Cosgrove makes a difference when he comes on hence wins from behind against Stevenage Carlisle and nearly again yesterday.. I also think yesterday we should have started him as support for McAtee and Cole. If he had converted 2 or 3 of his chances in those games we'd all be screaming for him to start but at least he created chances...unlike Watters..

I thought that Watters did a fair bit of running to close the goalie and defenders down despite having no real service whatsoever, the thing that frustrates me with him is how half hearted his attempt to win the ball is when he actually gets to the goalie or defender as for Cosgrove I think he needs Collins to show belief in him and give him a proper run in the team like Duff did with Cole last season.

Whilst I don't particularly rate Watters, had Cosgrove played in the first half he'd have done nothing. The ponderous tippy happy nonsense we were playing created absolutely nothing for the strikers. Although constantly giving the ball away seemed to help create plenty for theirs.
We were far more direct in the second half which benefitted Cosgrove, even Watters might have prospered with us playing that style.

Cosgrove for the first time decided to attack the ball rather than attack his marker in yesterday’s game. Which meant that he looked more useful in the build up, at least from an aerial perspective.
Sadly when the ball fell to earth, his finishing attributes were wholly absent.

This is the problem with tying players into long contracts, I remember a few years ago some fans were having a go because players could leave for nothing after 12/24 months or to stop using the loan market because their parent clubs were reaping the benefits, look what’s happened with the 2 Belgian players (when I say players..they really played us) and weaker players such as Watters
