Is anyone else attending the first of the new Fan Advisory Group on Monday evening? I'm not sure what the agenda is, but I'd imagine there will be a lot of discussions / talk about how it will work, etc. and the great news about the new lease and hopefully some more info on what improvement plans that news might bring to Oakwell. Assuming there is an opportunity to raise any points with BFC. Has anyone got any burning issues to raise? (Feel free to PM if you don't want to post them on here)
It's a shame about today's first half performance and full time result, because now I can see it being tainted...
As the council have stated that this venture will be cost neutral to them/tax payers, assuming the rental is comparable to previous payments, how does that translate to improvements (ie all monies to be reinvested)? As that won't exactly be much to reinvest in the grand scheme of things. Longer term, if at some point it is deemed worthy of replacing the west stand. How does that work in terms of paying for it, if the above (rental) won't likely scratch the surface of such costs. I think if the above 2 points are clearer, we all would get an idea of how the club/council will work with each other in the coming years.
Yes, I'm attending @Gally - although I'm still awaiting a link to join (I have a prior commitment during the afternoon so can't be there in person for this one).
2 of us mate. Just hope it's about stadium updates/ plans/ideas/off the field issues etc, and not a go at the Manager/players. That's pointless and a waste of time. Only updates on players, eg injuries is acceptable imo.
I’m still waiting to see if the lease is a good thing or not, if it was solely owned by the owners it would give more chance of stadium upkeep and improvements, failing to see how the council would fund anything? Isn’t everything hunky dory Now and the board/owners trustworthy now all the bad eggs have gone , Conway, Lee and Khaled?
I'm failing to see where the money to pa for maintenance is good to come from unless we have just signed up to 30 years at an absolute huge increase in rent. The previous recent agreement would have just about paid for new floodlights over the course of. 30 years
I still want to know, cos I haven't seen a definite answer: If BMBC sold off their new wholly-owned asset, would the lease, both length and terms, be safeguarded going forward. Councils up and down the country are selling crown jewels just to stay afloat .
It would be unusual for the lease not to be safeguarded. Assets with sitting tenants are often sold with no effect to the Tennant. There would have to be a specific clause that stated the club have to relinquish on the point of a sale which I would have thought the Crynes would never have signed up to given the idea is to safeguard football at Oakwell for the foreseeable future. Worth trying to clarifying of course. I'd also be surprised if there weren't specific clauses in the sale contract to stop the council selling at a future point in time under a different regime. After all the reason Patrick split ownership originally was to stop one party being able to sell Oakwell. Again worth asking.
I can’t believe they’re still going with ***. Even the swear filter on this forum won’t let me type it. Genuinely needs changing. Can someone bring that up on the agenda please?
They've said all rent payments will be reinvested in the Stadium. It also sounded like the rent payable was dependant on level we were playing at so presumably it increases in the Champ (although that might have already been the case). You'd have thought there would be an increase in the rent but I guess we might have to wait to find out on that score.
I know we won't get an answer, but it'd be interesting to hear a response nonetheless....... have we made any advances to Middlesborough and Luton to make the loan signings of Roberts and McAtee permanent? I'm assuming Rotherham, given the likelihood of them being back in L1 next season, will want to hang on to McCart for the foreseeable.
Robert's like Isted. Can bide his time. and go to the highest bidder in wages and signing on fee. Macatee. Not sure when his contract runs to. McCart. Contract runs to 2025. So like you say may want to keep him. And to be honest it'd probably be the stock answer from most clubs imo. "We are always looking at players who can improve the side" But definitely a question we can ask. Not so sure if it wouldnt alert other clubs but I'd definitely like to see us get Robert's.
To add my thoughts I suspect Rotherham’s new manager will have McCart back for pre season to make his own mind up about him, especially if and when they end up in League One. Would love us to get Roberts and McAtee permanently but can’t see it. Both will end up in championship next year I suspect.
I cannot attend for obvious reasons (distance) but the main thing I want to learn about is what the plans for the West stand are.
But then what? Council won't pay for a new one. Club certainly won't with only 20 years left on the lease, theyve been telling us that for the last few already.
