I was aware of his apology yrs ago. With the same reason. Not sure from where. But it was out there. I'm not his biggest fan. But he definitely did. I dont remember what was said at the time of rimmos death. But it should have been disclosed then. Or a short while after the funeral to not get involved in a war of words.
I don't think that, it worked both ways that day. He celebrated like a pillerk, he got it back. He then had lip on when Angus scored and slapped his arse.
Never had a problem with winnall he was great whilst a contracted Barnsley player. Who wouldn’t accept a big pay day ….timing was felt wrong but winnall didn’t choose that time and as for when he came to oakwell …fair play to him..he gave the stick he received
He was getting abuse before he celebrated Don’t get me wrong I was mad at time but that’s football . How many players have we abused then gone onto score against us Nathan Blake for Bolton was a nightmare for it and Steve bull for wolves
I thought it was common knowledge that it was his agent who leaked the photo, it’s not something that Winnall would have intentionally done himself. I have genuine good memories about his time with us. That 2nd goal against Walsall in the play-offs created the kind of moment and celebration that don’t come around too often for all of us. Yes it hurt when he left for Wednesday but I actually thought when he came back and got pelters and then gave it back when he scored made for a great derby atmosphere. When we got the late equaliser the roof nearly came off and oh if only that Hamill shot had gone in … It was a real hero turns villain story in the end but isn’t that what makes football unique and great. I think we should all wish the lad well in his new ventures and let bygones be bygones.
Winnall had pepper pig thrown at him before he scored. I remember blackpool away, away fans singing to Ince your dad's a lovely person.. soon as he scored runs to away fans with his finger over his mouth.. lime you say works both ways.
There were loads of players who wanted to leave that January but there was only one that acted the ******** at & around the club to try & force a move. Hourihane, Bree, Scowen, Watkins etc all handled themselves properly even in some cases when they didn’t get the move.
blake & bull were both a pain in the arse, but bull was a class act, in today's game he'd be priceless
Was he getting abuse from me? My daughter who idolised him? The staff who coached him and made him a better player? The staff at Oakwell? No. But he celebrated like he hated all of us. He deliberately made sure all four corners of the ground were targeted. He didn’t celebrate with his own fans. He goaded ours as if every single one of us (rather than the daft handful it was) had treated him badly. Totally lacking in class. I can’t ever think of him as anything other than disrespectful.
It’s not the rimmo thing for me, although I did find it distasteful and was fuming at the time. It’s leaving us, when we were in the position we were to go to that club, I can’t forgive that. It’s the celebration, I can’t forgive that. Good player for us, would’ve been welcomed back with legendary status for the rest of his life if he went somewhere else. Unfortunately, he didn’t, he went there. So for me, I have no time for him. If he went to them after a move to somewhere else, then that’s a different story, look at Hourihane we still love him and he’s played at Sheff Utd.
