Hmm. Obviously got to give him a chance, but my initial based-on-nothing-whatsoever gut-o-meter tells me this doesn’t feel right. I seriously hope this doesn’t force Bobby out of the Club.

Wonder what commercial experience he has in negotiating transfer deals?

All this analytics is brilliant, but we've got an analytics department for that (which we no doubt are spending a good few quid on). We need a figure head who is more general/has leadership experience of a multi million pound annual revenue business imho.

Can’t see him leaving & certainly would hope not anyway. Massive own goal if it did.

Am i missing something. Will he be the director of football or are we calling it sporting director? Or… are they different.

i was expecting an experienced football head, someone whos managed and , coached footballers and had experience through various levels etc. This guy seems heavily academic / analytical experienced with no hands on management at any football level.

Im not saying he isnt good and may well be good for us as i dont know him but the role profile i expected seems out of sync. Maybe its me that has it wrong .

That’s my point, I don’t actually think our model is hugely broken and it just needed a ‘football’ person to gel it together.

Never twigged this was Bobby's replacement. Is Sporting Director and Director of Football the same thing then?
Not a good move if it is.

It’s so Barnsley , announcing a new Director of Football responsible for identifying players and transfers on the day after the transfer window closes

Very concerning if this is the guy filling Bobby’s role, we are crying out for someone who actually knows football, ideally played at a decent level. Bobby would have have been perfect in my opinion, but maybe he doesn’t want it?

Best time. Gives him 5 months clear to prepare the way, identify targets and start looking at players for the next window in the summer.

If he started last month, the pressure would have been on before he'd even gotten his name on the door and he'd take the rap for any bad deals - or failure to sign 27 strikers...

Discussing how the two roles would dovetail, Parekh said:

“The job is too big for one person to be a CEO and director of football. It requires very different skillsets.
The CEO will handle everything non-football – merchandising, ticketing, sponsorship, commercial and catering.

The director of football will handle everything related to football – player transfers, contracts, coaching staff, physios and sports science.
It doesn’t have to be a former player, just someone who is good at the job".

Seems odd we've changed the job title, so maybe it's a different position? His experience doesn't seem to tie in with 80% of the job role as listed, so a strange appointment if it is the role Bobby was doing.

Won’t Bobby just go back to his previous role as head of Academy, where he seemed to be doing an outstanding job?

Maybe. But maybe he’ll also feel like he deserves the role? Maybe he’ll feel like he’s outgrown the Academy gig and if he isn’t being offered it now, maybe it’s time to move on?

Personally I don’t want a data scientist as ‘Sporting Director’. I want someone who has lived and breathed football at this level, and better still, someone who has also lived and breathed in our community.

I think we should hold off before making a judgement. This guy clearly brings a lot of expertise but isn’t the profile I was expecting. If it’s a joint role with BH then that would make a lot of sense.

Correct, and still no official announcement from the club.
How reliable is this site "trainingground.guru"?
Something doesn't feel right to me.

Another thing - we don't really have a particularly diverse football department now do we, or really anyone that has ever run or worked in Football beyond analysis despite accountabilities for all football related matters.

If I was a shareholder, I'd be wondering why & what risks that bring.
