Some people had the opinion he wasnt trying. I don't think he was lazy. I just wasn't convinced he was very good in center midfield. I might be proved wrong and Sunderland buy him at the end of season who knows. But if he is good enough to play in the championship he should have done alot better with us this season.

Just wishing Callum all the very best, as he's been unlucky with untimely injuries & recovery from an appendectomy isn't the best start to this stint at Sunderland.
Could go either way, but he's the talent to succeed and hope there's an option of championship level football with us next season.

He probably thinks if he says thankyou to the club that includes the man who's destroying his career, Collins.

As others have said - to get the deal over the line in a limited time or even financial reasons. You might want a player but know that the transfer fee will take you over your budget for this season so you pay some now for a loan deal then pay the rest later knowing that it will be counted in next seasons finances.

Why has Collins destroyed his career? That's a ridiculous statement.

I hope not, the Woodrow deal was an excellent one for the club.

In his defence it is only a loan deal and he will probably be back here pre-season.

Exactly this. It’s becoming more and more common in these days of FFP etc. Although of course you can’t rob Peter to pay Paul forever, and I’m certain some clubs will get a bite to the bum a couple of years down the line.

Yes. As was Tom Bradshaw by Millwall.

This particular situation has been chewed over many times on this forum. The purchase/sale date can be agreed today: the payments are then tailored to whatever the clubs involved agree.

Ridiculous statement to make. I'm guessing Duff took part in destroying his career too? Gary Rowett also? Might as well throw in the Hungary manager Marco Rossi in for the laugh.

    Just ridiculous.

But how? Styles best time came under val at lwb. I'm told styles prefers to play center midfield but for me he wouldn't get in ours if everyone is fit. That's not Collins fault.

Someone else posted that the Woodrow deal was done to save time. I can understand that.

You can agree to buy a player and stage the payments as you wish, subject to agreement between the clubs involved. If you sign a player on loan with an option to buy, you have what you need. You can then drop out if you're disappointed or e.g. if he gets injured. There is no benefit from accepting an obligation to buy as this reduces your flexibility.

There is zero benefit to Sunderland from accepting an "obligation to buy" which is why they wouldn't accept it. In financial terms a loan with an obligation to buy is a buy, not a loan. It could be argued that an arrangement like that would give Sunderland a right to sue BFC if they sold Styles to someone other than Sunderland at the end of the loan. This would appear to be a positive if the queue of people wanting to sign Styles was significantly longer than it seems to have been so far :)

My Sunderland-supporting mate messaged earlier, asking 'is he any good'? My reply:

One great season at LWB under Valerian Ismael when we made the Champ playoffs. Had a few PL clubs sniffing round. He then decided he was a central midfielder (he isn't!), got indulged in that role by a succession of managers and has underwhelmed ever since. He's not even our best LWB any more! Been sulking most of the season and not really giving 100%. But.... there's a player in there somewhere and given he's a pretty regular starter for Hungary, he's clearly capable. Not sure why he lost his way with us, really....
