After reading through various transfer sites and other message boards trying to keep up to date with what was happening yesterday I came across quite a few horrible comments thrown at BFC and one in particular aimed at JA Quay. What gives people the right or a sense of being right to give foul mouthed tirades against other people especially towards a woman who in my view has been a breath of fresh air at Oakwell. By all means stamp your feet or even spit your dummy out because we haven't signed someone with a "name"but please show a bit of decency towards the club you claim to support.
That's social media for you. Before social media, these trolls would just pass a derogatory comment to a colleague and it would be between two people. Now they spout the same bile on social media where thousands can see it including the potential victim. Ive no idea what they get out of it or how you could prevent it.
Think it goes further than that TBH. I have no issues with people having their opinions even when I disagree but there is no justification when those opinions turn to personal insults about the individual. By all means say they are crap at their job etc but people should always stay away from personal stuff.
A small minority of Brain dead morons. Who can gather an audience of other brain dead morons to join in. Anyone with any modicum of decency wouldnt entertain such comments mate. And thankfully. (Although it may not seem so at the time) are the Vast majority.
Watched something earlier where a comedian was talking about how comedy evolves and that comedy style reflects society not the other way round. Social media is the same it’s a shameful indictment of society and its values today. I was brought up that you never say anything about anyone that you wouldn’t say in front of them, unfortunately society now seems to encourage people to be more abusive on line yet I still doubt they would repeat in person.
We have an education system that always has and continues to produce a high percentage of ignorant, bigoted people. It's about time we did something about it and focused on creating rounded human beings as a priority.
Love it when such folk are put in their place by anyone. And realise they have little if any support.
I'll put it simply for you, they're thick ***** who can' think of anything constructive to say other than lashing out with personal insults.
Great post BMW - we need to call out this abusive and bigoted behaviour and not let it be accepted nor be representative of Barnsley supporters.
How would you run us. Genuine question. Things will move forward (hopefully mistakes are rectified). Now the lease issue has been resolved. I just hope we can get out of the contract with Fanatics if they can't issue guarantees. (which has been a disaster,) lee and Conway out of the picture in any decision making. We will not throw out massive amounts in transfer fees. That's a given and summat I understand. You have only to look at other supposedly bigger clubs who are in financial crisis to understand that. Some have sugar daddies. We don't. Take Chansiri and the extortionate prices and early bird shenanigans to try claw back some of his millions. But for a dodgy ref. Would more than likely have still been in league one.
The state of Twitter replies to the Club Tweet on the Conor Grant signing, for example. I sincerely hope every player is specifically told not to look at any of our social media accounts.
I wouldn't consistently sign league 2 and national league fringe players and throw them in the first 11. Blackpool signed byers. That's a signing that shows fans they are willing to chase.
I don't look. But if they are identifiable. Ban em. But I suspect some of em don't go. If they do. Wtf for. Stop at home. I would have it in every footballers contract to remove twatter. Constructive criticism is ok. Abuse never.
