At work we've got a cable comes out of the ground outside and into the building. It disappears behind a wall so can't really be easily traced. The cable says fibre optic on it and has a picture of a telephone on it too but BT (who provide our phone line and internet) say it's nothing to do with them.

    Any ideas?

Could be Yorkshire Cable who were swallowed up by Virgin Media.

As far as I know we've never had any supplier other than BT but you could be right. Looks like I'm doing a bit of literal digging tomorrow doesn't it

Didn't NTL take over Yorkshire Cable who then became Virgin?

Chances are it's an old line that's potentially been terminated, you might have a white master socket somewhere in the building with no connections and it might have a number on it which you could trace back to find the provider.
