36 years ago today we had our highest ever attendance.
Played Stoke City in front of an Oakwell crowd of 40.255.

Not 36 years ago BMW. It was in 1936 in the FA Cup 5th round. We won 2-1 but I didn't realise until recently that we started fast and scored after just 30 seconds and whilst they also equalised early after 6 minutes, our top scorer Ernest Hine put us 2-1 up before HT and that was the final score. Maybe Neill could tell the players about the benefits of playing well right from kick off!

I think that was the official attendance released. But was much bigger in reality. God knows how many climbed over the brewery stand wall lol. :)

Must have been 36 years ago when we had the Pink Panther FA Cup ties against Stoke. Easily confused!

I thought it was the second, wasn't Leicester in a cup game thought to be the highest but it was unofficial?

I’ve been going since 1973 and highest attendance in that time was against Man City in 1981, around 35000 I think.

33,000 but the Everton cup tie in the 80s was 32,000 when Southall got a bit of stick from the crowd

Really? I thought the City game had a bigger crowd than the Everton one?

I wonder if anyone still with us was amongst the 40,255 in 1936? Maybe Harold Yeardley who was a special guest at Oakwell last Saturday? Anyone old timers on here?

Why did they want to leave early when we were winning?
