I was there pal, and the following day I went back to work with rest of striking miners after a year of no work. We then lost to Liverpool the following weekend I think

I was there too. Went on a minibus from the old Oakleaf pub on Day Street. Great night with a stunning winner from Agnew. Can’t recall seeing any tv footage since.

    Me too, I was there.
I remember the Southampton fans running across the pitch at the end to congratulate the Barnsley fans !!!
At least both sets wore red and white so was easier to hide.

Was a bit naughty outside after. A daunting walk through the back streets to our minibus. Saw a few others from Barnsley get their windows smashed. Fortunately ours was plain with no markings on it.

I too was there that night, very tasty at full time.I walked back to the coach at the side of a policeman supported by a vicious looking police dog.
Eight cans of John Smiths,4 for the way down and 4 for the way back.I could have made a fortune on the return journey.

Forgot that song about Shilton. But remember the Southall chant.

Seems his Mrs wasnt alone in adultary.
This story made me smile a little. :)

Shilton was arrested for drink-driving after being found at 5am in a country lane with a woman called Tina in his car. When Tina's husband Colin arrived he said the pair were partially clothed. Shilton hurriedly drove away and crashed into a lamppost. He admitted 'taking a lady for a meal' and was fined £350 and banned from driving for 15 months. He then had to endure countless terrace chants of 'Shilton, Shilton, where's your wife?'

Easy drive down from Salisbury for me where I was living. Never dreamed I would ever see the Reds at The Dell, never mind actually win there. Wonderful performance

Correcting my earlier post, Agnew's was actually the equaliser with the winner a Gordon Owen penalty.

Remember first ten minutes or so they were all over us. I thought to myself, especially after having let five in the previous weekend, that we would be getting hammered by 6 or 7. However what sticks my mind most is the amazing vocal support from us, helping the team to firstly equalise then to get our second, both goals in front of our end. And then the superb, backs to the wall defending from the team accompanied by non stop singing from our fans for the rest of the game, especially the 2nd half when Southampton laid seize to our goal.
Definitely one the most 'in it together moments' that i have experienced following the Reds.

To say it was a Monday night after been postponed 2 or 3 times the support was fantastic.
I remember an article in the program mentioning Kelvin and Ashley who had just completed and joined the 92 club.

Agree 100%, fantastic backing that night.
Think emotions were running high with many due to the miners going back the following day too.

I'll stand corrected B. I'll ask Ashley when I get the chance. But I think that was a saturday game. Ash used to get all my programmes regardless of whether I went or not. And I have the programme somewhere. Where they are mentioned. but it wasnt against us I believe. And Kelvin Actually succeeded the 92 twice. on the same day. (Every ground/team twice) We then drew Southampton in the cup a couple of months later and we laughed about it.
I've in my head it may have been the same day they did 3 matches. (free travel on the trains helped) A Morning, Afternoon and Evening KO.
    Edit re the 3 matches.
Just asked him mate. one of the games was West ham v Arsenal. He thinks leyton Orient v Us. And remembers the Southampton connection. re going there again a few months later. Could av saved him a few quid lol. Sad to see ash struggling with away games now for several reasons.
But Kel is still using the verbals lol. Ask your lass about kel on a few of our away trips lol. When he gets uptight, I think she'll have been present. He's a Star. I mean that in a nice way. If I had to nail down a No.1 fan. But it's not summat I adhere to in the strictest sense . Kel is that person. And anyone who knows him as you and I do. Would i think agree.

I drove a van full of us down there, it was a Monday night, eve of the return to work of the Miners. Remember Joe Jordan absolutely battering a young Nicky Law, but Nicky held firm and of course we won. Collecting them coins at the end what the Saints fans threw at us was quite profitable;)
