Looks like Jimmy reads either the Daily Mail or the Express but there again he might watch GB News, Orsen.
Why don’t real socialists go and create a different party? They all hate the majority of labour voters who are either brexiteers or sirstarmerites or m25ers anyway.
Yes the vast majority of Government debt is Money the Government prints and then lends to itself. Times of economic crisis are the ideal time for this to happen. Look at something like the Furlough scheme or track and trace we created the money to fund them. Taxation pays for pretty much nothing in terms of capital expenditure. I’d recommend following Richard Murphy on Twitter. His blog is really straightforward around monetary policy. https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/ The biggest con job that Thatcherites like Reeves peddle is the idea that a national fiat economy is in any way linked to a household one. It isn’t. If I’m skint I can’t nip into the kitchen and print myself some more money.
long standing policy they first raised in October 2023 against someone who has overtly supported starving Gazans. Difficult to know who is genuine.
Tories are toast. Reform's 'comeback' will likely see them utterly wiped out. Grand. But let's not be silly here. This version of Labour is barely shifting the needle. The nation had a choice in 2017 and 2019 for real change. For the many, not the few. Suck it up.
Try telling hard working folk on zero hours contracts that the UK's productivity needs improving to fix our economic woes when they're sent home from their shifts... in the name of productivity. I'm struggling to see anything from Labour that would be of tangible benefit to anyone I know. My peer group of 30-somethings are just completely disenfranchised, as are those younger than us. We are unrepresented in party politics and I think Rachel and her ilk might be in for a shock when their taking our vote for granted doesn't materialise the numbers they anticipated. You have to give us something to vote for.
Wait until the manifestos are published. Labour are playing the absolute perfect game. There’s absolutely zero benefit from trying to get any plans out. The Tories are gifting them a landslide. When we do finally get into the GE cycle they will have to tell the country and voters what they would be voting for. Until then, it would just give the Tories a chance to use its media muscle to attack. There’s no political gain from giving them a head start, when the government are floundering and plummeting in the polls.
And when they do put a policy out there (non-doms), the Tories nick it and spend the money elsewhere.
If you go back and read Reeves' conference speech from last October, then look at her comments on Monday night then I think you'd find much that would be likely to improve the employment landscape for people of your generation. But you have to take the trouble to read them. You might then want to consider how we arrived at the current outlook for the 30-something generation. A clue would be: it goes back 14 years.
I hope you're right. There needs to be more hope for the future injected when the GE does come around.
This is the same old argument though. I know all about the last 14 years having started work a year before the credit crunch and I despise the Tories. But simply not being Tories isn't enough. I don't see much from Labour to suggest their economic strategy would be much different from the 2010 coalition.
All depends on the Holy Grail of growth, doesn't it? Rachel's set out in her speeches her approach to that. I grant you though, the proof will be whether it is delivered. And the economic constraints are tight. Debt levels an interest payments do matter, no matter what what the fantasy economists might try to tell you. But simply not being Tories isn't enough. It absolutely is. I'm desparate for them to be out on their arse.
UK GDP in 2007 was $3.09tn. In 2022 it had increased massively to $3.07tn... (it was higher in 2021, but fell again in 22 thanks to the Truss) - despite increasing the population significantly over that period. In 1980, UK GDP was $568bn, by 1985 it had increased massively to $489bn... Conservative economic policies don't work for the majority - or for the country.
Regardless of my own political stance, this is bang on. Why play your hand at this point? Their strategy is working a treat.
