Do ask again but if all else fails, you can buy them online fairly cheaply. You shouldn’t have to but better safe than sorry and all that.
The PSA test is not an accurate test and your local clinic would have to pay, ask for the physical test see how that goes.
I'm in the same boat as Connor is , I've asked my Local GP twice in the last six months for a PSA test after seeing the advert on T.V. & both times have been refused. Would like to know where i can get legitimate tests from online if anyone knows ! Get well soon Euroman.
I'm in the gang too Kev, only 20 sessions of RT for me though, only went cos I bumped into an old workmate from East bank who had got it, I had no symptoms, had to argue with a receptionist to get a PSA test, but as you know I'm a bolshie barsteward and didn't give up till I got one. I've heard of loads from Stocksbridge that have/had PC. So, all you lads over 50 get a PSA test don't be fobbed off, lie if you have to, tell them you're getting up loads in the night, and dribbling when you go. Don't be worried about the tests or the exam, they're nothing, it could save your life.
Some Doctors will resist giving you a PSA test but don't let them put you off. Demand one if you are over 50 it is your legal right.
I allowed myself to be fobbed off 11years ago. No symptoms so no test. Three years ago, still with no symptoms, I managed to convince my, new, doctor to do a PSA test. The next day, while I was fishing, he rang me to tell me he was fixing up a consultation for me at Jimmy's, Leeds. Apparently my reading was a little high. When I asked what it was he told me it was 450! Took the edge off a good day's fishing that did. When I told my story to the consultant two weeks later he shook his head. He'd heard similar stories before. So listen to the great advice on this thread. Don't leave your health in the hands of your GP, they're not specialists and you won't even get an apology, for what that's worth, if they get it wrong. Stand up for your rights, make up symptoms if it's the only way, but get tested, and if you're lucky enough to get a good result, make a date to get another test next year, and the next, etc. It's YOUR body, take some responsibility for it. My three sons know I'll come back to haunt them if they don't.
You can get ones from Superdrug for £12.99 but if you’re over 50 your doctor should not be denying you a test (it may not be a PSA test they are willing to give but you should be able to have your prostate checked). https://www.superdrug.com/health/home-testing-kits/selfcheck-prostate-test-kit/p/782434
This in bucketloads.. if you are still struggling to convince them use the word Blood. Something I learned getting a family member checked for something properly years ago. I was trying to dramatise something and happened to say it looked like blood and the whole tone changed. I know it’s extreme and totally a last resort because it could involve further checks. But it’s worrying how many on here are being turned down. I think the subject of this thread needs to be a stickie as there is lots of advice that needs to be shared to support our fellow men.
