Despite threatening to be the divisions surprise package in the first few months of the season, Stevenage are now clinging onto faint hopes of making the Play-Offs after poor form so far in 2024. They find themselves 9th, 6 points behind Oxford who have moved back into the top 6 ahead of a rampant Lincoln side, who finally dropped their first points in 6 at the weekend. A victory tonight will ensure we can't finish any lower than 8th, and we're 21/10 outsiders to win on our first visit to the Lamex, with Stevenage 5/4 favourites.

At home, Stevenage have the 11th best home record in the division, with 32 points from 20 games (for context, we have the same points but have played a game more). Whilst they have the 2nd best defensive record at home in the league, shipping just 15 goals at the Lamex (only Lincoln have a better record), they have only scored 22 on home soil; this is the worst record of any side in the top 16, and even 20th placed Port Vale have scored more on home soil.

The Boro are winless in 3 at home, with goalless draws vs Bolton and Fleetwood sandwiching a 1-0 defeat to Orient. Prior to that however, their home form was largely favourable, with just 2 defeats in 15 on home soil in all competitions, stretching back to mid October. Overall, they're without a win in 8; 5 of those have been draws, 4 of which goalless. They've only scored 3 goals in that time, 2 of which in a draw with basement side Carlisle.

Obviously, we have no head to head history at the Lamex, having never been in the same division as Boro before. Our victory at Oakwell in December is the only meeting between the two sides.

Stevenage's top scorer is Jamie Reid, on 17 goals, the same as Devante Cole. Like Cole, Reid is going through a bit of a baron spell in front of goal. He's gone 10 games in the league without registering, though did find the net for Northern Ireland during the last international break; Reid made his international bow during the most recent round of internationals, scoring on his second appearance vs Romania. 30 year old Midfielder, Jordan Roberts has registered 5 goals and 4 assists this season, though himself only has 1 league goal this calendar year. Stevenage have bags of experience in their side, albeit at the lower levels. The youngest player in their side from the defeat at Exeter at the weekend, is goalkeeper Taye Ashby-Hammond, who himself is 25. Even amongst the subs bench, they only had 1 player younger than that.

Tonight's ref is Declan Bourne. He's issued 89 yellows and 4 reds in 21 games this season, including 4 yellows (all for Barnsley players) during our victory at Fleetwood back in February. I don't remember too much of his performance that day, though he didn't score highly in the comparatively competent trophy. He last took charge of Stevenage in December 2021, when they were beaten 2-0 at home to Carlisle, and awarding the Cumbrians a penalty.

Another rough game to predict, but given Stevenage are seemingly draw specialists, faltering in attack, but solid defensively, I'm opting for 1-1. I think we'll go behind, as that's what we do, then Phillips will equalise just after half time.

Looking at the table.. it's Stevenage's 'High noon' tonight.. if that makes sense.
They must win tonight to keep their faint hopes up of a play off spot alive
That being so and the fact we've almost totally lost the ability to play as a team.. especially for anywhere near 90 minutes says to me it's going to be another struggle
    2-1 them.

1-1. Our form isn’t great but better than theirs. They need a win but we’re not exactly comfortable at the moment. I expect us to cancel each other out.

21/10 outsiders to win? Given our excellent away record that's a bit harsh and I expect us to break our all time record for away wins tonight. It won't be a stroll in the park but I can see us getting a 2-1 or 3-1 win.

Expect this to be a low scoring game with little in it could go either way by the odd goal but if I have to guess I will go for 1-1 we will score first and be on top first half that will be our good half. We will fall away and they will get one back mid way through the second leading to the usual stressfull last 10 mins or so
