Genuinely - as friends of friends of the family, managing Barnsley was hard on Hecky - with a young family in Barnsley schools.
Because people are deep down probably thinking that due to the bizarre timing of the decision that there are only a few managers currently out of work that may be interested in us. It's why Duff, Hecky and Warnock have all been mentioned.
Long term, I'd still like to see Nigel Clough. Job well done at Mansfield, was unlucky really at the blunts and got Burton punching above their normal level regularly. He knows the game inside out and has a decent record. I'd say his worst spell was at Derby, but they had probably started their decline at the time so most would have found it a difficult job if they expected em to get back to the prem.
I think people just like to tout names for the sake of it, even though it’s likely the manager we bring in we won’t have heard of. It’s the same cycle every time we search for a new manager, people can only speculate about names they actually know when the reality is the shortlist we’ll draw up there may be only 1 or 2 names we know in there.
He's literally just confirmed on Sky sports (in studio for Leicester v Southampton) that's it. He's officially retired
If his reasons for leaving were genuine it'd be cause for concern that he'd abandon his principles not 12 months later.
