No it was going to be before but after doing the academy and woman’s player the first team players where just leaving the pitch before the game, they got the timings wrong and then yep no chance cos of our idiot fan base ruining things at the end of the game. Will be done on Friday now I would imagine.
There were no timings wrong. It was Academy and Women's pre-match, first team post-match (during the lap of appreciation). However, and rightly so, the players didn't do the lap following the hundreds of people who ignored all instructions and invaded the pitch. Despite ruining the lap of appreciation, awards, threat of a huge fine and so on. They felt it necessary to run onto some turf, and knee slide all over it, set off flares etc. The mind boggles. The awards will be announced early next week, digitally.
More awards this year, and with the Reds Remembered tribute also, it was felt that announcing the first team winners during the lap of appreciation would be a nice touch. But yeah.
Can't remember as many Reds Remembered names as were read out today. I lost my Dad 7 years ago and it meant a lot to me hearing his name read out and the response of the crowd during and after the reading.
Ok. So why change it should have been done before the game. Sadly it’s also taken that moment away from the player too through no fault of their own - when let’s all be honest we all knew what would happen despite many repeated attempts to ask people not to go on the pitch.
POTS should always be before the game. To change tradition to what to do it when we all knew morons would run on the pitch was silly.
Did you let everyone know you were going to do this? There's Match Day Supporter Information published on the Official site and A reminder to stay seated (which mentions a walk around the perimeter, but does not mention the POTY announcement). https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2024/april/pitch/ https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2024/april/access-cobblers/
No im blaming us for not doing it the usual way. I saw firsthand our brain dead fans ruining it for others today but considering the fact that year after year we ask fans not to go on we decided to change things today - why bother with announcing the academy player and womans and then leave the main one till after the game. Crazy.
It was all very weird. Nobody bothered to tell fans when it was going to be so those in the ground were saying "oh it must be at half time or something" and then after half time "I guess it just be at an awards dinner" nobody I spoke to guessed that it might be after the match which means that half the ground had buggered off home even if they had done it after the game. Communication on simple things like this really has to be improved because how hard is it to say when it's going to be rather than "the rest of the awards will be given out later"
The club know that there is a very strong possibility of a pitch invasion. It’s an odd decision that they would choose to schedule it for after the game when it’s normally before. Sums up the club at the minute, not much makes any sense.
Bonkers decision to schedule it for after the match knowing what we all know and an absolutely stupid decision to do so but keep the decision a big secret from supporters. Communication has been at an all time low this season and it's painful to witness.
Nice touch when half the crowd have gone home and some of those left have only stayed so they can run on some grass. I never stay for the annual pitch invasion but would have stayed if id known the player of the season award was taking place. It would have taken 2 minutes before kick off so who decided to postpone it till after the match was done without telling anyone. It might even have stopped the pitch invasion if it had been announced.
