Hey back in February I said they would struggle to keep hold of him https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/richie-wellens.328170/
Looks like the classic situation where he gets the the chance to climb the managerial ladder at a bigger club just like big Val and Duff did when leaving us. Hope it happens before friday.
I think his promotion with Swindon and his complete job with Leyton Orient is very inspiring and is along the lines of another Michael Duff style appointment, one that I am very much on board with. What are fans expecting us to pull out of the bag here? Jurgen Klopp?.
Just had a snoop round one of their forums; general feeling is that it's a done deal. Based on nothing much, but they think he's gone.
one forum are debating who their next manager should be. Maybe we should just check who Nudger has his money on!
This seems a hopeful punt from the board based on the decent job he has done at Orient. Wellens was hired as a fans favourite at Donny to build the club but he bombed badly there and spat his dummy out behind the scenes within weeks. Not impressed by this as a possibility.
Also won League 2 with Swindon didn't he? His teams are supposed to be hardworking, well-organised, and play with wingers. Seems like another Duff-type appointment to me. The more I read, the more I think he'd be an excellent fit.
Im skeptical about this one, there’s a post on the Orient forum alluding to Wellens not being happy with business in January & not being backed well enough, well he’s not going to last long here if that’s true! Saw him on the Salford documentary as well, not really impressed with his coaching style that we saw to be honest.
Sacked at Donny when 23rd with 13 points from 19 games. Fell out with the board after spending the budget he agreed to and then saying publicly he needed 5 more players. Generally plays 433 or 4231 possession football which would be a significant change in approach by us and doesn't suggest this is all long term planning
Wow according to them O's fans, its the 200 quid i put on Wellens at 8/1 thats brought him into joint favourite, i'd say its more the fact that he'll be our next Manager and the Bookies know it, 2/1 is still not 1/4 like mr Hammer was but 8/1 will do me, [ next holiday gerrin booked ], not my choice but i guess he'll av to do.
