Watching in my local darn sarf. Every time I watch a Barnsley match there, some cockney geezer will wander over and ask who’s playing. When I say ‘Barnsley’ they have a think and ask ‘are you from Bolton?” They know nowt about owt north of Watford - if it starts with ‘B’ it's Bolton. Tonight should do their heads in. I’m going for Bolton 2 Bolton1.
No they know where I'm from - Barnes which is just down the road. Years ago one bloke did ask why Barnes were playing in the Championship.
I actually have a story regarding Bolton fans. Back in 2013 United played a pre season game at Wigan. But on the Friday night Bolton were playing Real Betis in a friendly. So I made the effort to take in that game. I had to get a train back into Bolton then another back to Wigan where my digs were. On the train a guy asked why I was there. I told him United were to play Wigan on Saturday so I took in their game. So what team do you support he says to me. I asked what? Celtic or Rangers he says. Neither I’m a Dundee United fan and he is a bit confused and comes back with you must support one of them. I told him again Dundee United then had to give up with his absolute ignorance.
I was once on a cruise when a bloke from darn sarf asked me what part of Lancashire I was from. I told him the Yorkshire part.
When I lived in the West Midlands they used to do the same with Barnsley and Bradford If fact the local paper Express and Star actually did the favourite. Fixtures for the new season came out and we were at home to West Brom.. and the headline..you guessed it..Baggies head to Burnley on the opening day..
