Cole is also a confidence player and right now that is completely shot. Not helped by abuse from our own fans.

    [QUOTE="Mido, post: 3287460,
The problem is he had a man mountain behind him who dominated. Cold is a decent striker when he gets service, unfortunately he’s got bugger all service for months.[/QUOTE]

for me he spends far too much time stood behind their defenders, he seems to assume that they are always going to let the ball through, rather than him attacking it and they don’t!

Their big defender and Cole were a total mismatch physically - so I agree our long balls were a hopeless tactic. The problem is Cole gave up trying once realised that. At that point he didn’t have the guile to get the better of his man any other way. Last night he looked happier to stand next to their defenders than actually using him own movement to pull them out of position.

hence after they scored the second, just when we’re needing him to really step up, he looked like he was hiding. He was slow getting back on side and wasn’t making space for himself or anyone else. The substitution was overdue, but it in no way justifies the cheer that went up - I thought that was shocking tbh.

Pathetic. I imagine that’s done wonders for the lads confidence

Anyone thought the reason they pump it long, down the middle is because thats where he stands all game and that's the only "out" ball they have because nobody is showing for the ball through the lines.

I can't decide whether he is so static because he genuinely doesn't know or even think about making runs to give an out ball down the channel or he does and just can't be buggered making them. He rarely gets to the ball before the defender because he's not on his toes.

Cole is the prime example why you let em F##k off in January.. Folk cry when we don't hold on to players and Cole is the reason why you let em go.
His effort this 2nd half of season as been embarrassing.

Cole flatters to deceive but you cant take away he is top scorer. Didn't contribute last night but McAtee looked like he had never kicked a ball before. Couldn't control it. Maybe one of them games.

A bigger issue than an individuals performance for me is the game plan. What was Coles role in it? Its hard to know if the plan doesn't exist or appears not to. One thing for sure is we we had very little ability at moving a ball from the back to the front players that caused any sustained pressure or danger. We had a 10 min spell late on but nothing when fresh or fit early in the game.

I and everyone sat near me gave a huge cheer for a positive tactical sub that we were crying out for to give some encouragement to Sam. Consensus around me was it wasn’t Cole’s day but fair dos to him. I’m shocked but not surprised that some of our neurotic fans have managed to turn cheering to encourage a positive change that actually resulted in some of our only good attacking play into an arch problem between the fans and players. If it was booing fair dos but it was cheering when we saw the 9 on the board. Maybe starting a thread like this to stir for no reason is what’s pathetic laddo.

Completely agree. I thought it was shameful. He's lost the form he had in the first half of the season (as have others) but he's our top scorer ffs!

He's been flogged throughout the season and played far too many minutes.

If the Board had recruited an adequate back up or partner then we could have rotated our squad more throughout the season to keep our better players fresh for when it really mattered.

Instead we made poor signings, so Cole has had to play more than 50 games.

Just as I saw it, the cheer was for Cosgrove coming on at last to give us a physical presence up top, Cole got a light applause for his efforts..........sithi.

All well and good slating Cole, but again, the tactics were just awful. It shouldn’t have taken more than 30 seconds of a clip reel, to know that aerial balls weren’t going to work.

I really don't get the Mcatee love-in. I've seen him have about 2 good games.

I was sat in the Grove St end of the Ponty. It seemed the ‘cheer’ was for different things - judging by the comments of people around me. Yes, some cheered at Cole’s substitution. Others were sarcastically cheering Devanney finally trying to change things, others still cheering the intro of Cosgrove, and a few cheering Cole’s contribution.

That’s the thing with us fans - we’re as consistent as the Board and the team.
