It’s a weird feeling this not caring

Stopped buying a season ticket a couple of years ago after supporting the reds for almost 50 years. Never felt so flat about the reds. I prefer warching Penistone Church, much more entertaining. At least the lads pkay for the shirt. Could've gone last night but decided to go up to the lakes. Could've of watched the game in a pub but decided to give it a miss to watch the sunrise on Helvellyn. The photo proved i was right, so much more satisfying.

I think that is an excellently phrased post. Its sad but mainly worrying that so many Barnsley fans, who aren't fickle fly-by-night people are attending less and less. I include myself in that. I'm simply not attending very much now. I go and 'have a look' a few times a year to gauge how well things are progressing and often come away feeling demoralised, powerless and numbed. The club is simply being run very badly. Coach, player recruitment, long-term development, yearly sales, high turnovers of staff, administrative errors, bad communication. Its soul-destroying to fans who have experienced very, very positive times in the past. The decline simply seems relentless. I did post a while ago saying although we are declining the decline will naturally bottom out at some point but with more and more fans walking away any turn around will simply take longer. There needs to be some serious soul-searching by the board this close season about what they are actually going to do for the longer term to address the key causes of decline. I, like most Barnsley fans would like to feel proud of the club again and if the board are as committed as they say they are they'll change their modus operandi to reinspire us all. Sound bites and sexy-sounding new roles like DOF are all well and good but ultimately its the passion on the pitch that makes supporters proud. Board, please do something.

 

I did go last night but I feel detached.

Currently sitting in our motorhome at The Boatman's Rest in Worsbrough Dale, having been cycling up the TPT So yes there are more important things in life.

Watching a football team is all about hope for the future. Once that’s gone there’s not an awful lot left.

 

I wish I could argue with you on any of the points raised, Roy old mate, but I can't. Health has prevented me from attending for a couple of years now and watching games on a computer screen is nothing in comparison to actually being there. Possibly the only issue on which I differ is that it still hurts every time we lose.
I haven't a clue how the club can turn things round, both short & long term. But I hope they can.

 

I'm in agreement with all that has been said.
I will not be renewing my s/t as I can't face having to support the enforced decline that our current regime is overseeing.
I've been going since 1968, full of excitement so looking forward to each new season. Now that has gone.
I'm so tired of our annual fuckup, we do well and we ruin it, we do badly and we even ruin that.
Let me know when I can expect to see things get better. Not soon I imagine.

 

Exactly the same for me mate. Was going to say probably not the reason most fans feel due to the team. But mine is due to the fans as well. It's just crazy.

 

We've had morons going for years I had a incident a while ago that stopped me going for a few seasons. Sad that alot aren't renewing I know to a certain extent the club have got to get the fans back on board(a good manager appointment would be a start) but without revenue we will be even less competitive next season. Look at pompey a bigger club than us and they were In this league about 10 years before promotion.

 

We need to find another gem manager like Wednesday have done.hard to find though.

 

Yep mate, they were in league 2 for 3 years. It's crazy for a club their size. The club definitely has a responsibility to now get the fans back on side, regardless of what happens on Tuesday & beyond. As daft as it sounds, because personally I couldn't care less where they're from, as long as they're good for us, i.e Val, Stendel, some say Struber, I think a good start would be hiring a British based manager. The fact I have to say that boggles the mind because we've had equally as many crap british managers as we have had foreign recently.

 

Respect to Bossman but I could not feel the same way. Win, ecstatic, lose gutted & Draw, gutted.

There's a bigger issue here. I feel the same as many here. 30 odd years watching sporadically from down south but my dad feels the same and been watching nearly 70 years. Football's broken and it's so detached, separate and unrecognisable as sport than it was even 15 years ago. The issue is BFC but the issue is also football in general. It's knackered.
