I think the point he's making is that our owners may have had interests in a number of clubs but there was never a direct relationship between the clubs in the way that Man City have with other teams around the world through the City Group set up.
Having DNA and identity doesn't need to be set by the club though. Bear with me Gally. The most current successful managers Pep, Klopp both have teams who have DNA and identity thus isn't driven by a DOF or a club mandate it's driven by the managers/coaches. Both these highly successful clubs operate with numerous staff and recruitment teams, obviously we're talking economies of scale but the point stands. Take a team closer to us in Peterborough, Barry fry DOF/recruitment but Darren ferguson chooses how they play, they successfully operate within the transfers market in turning over a profit on transfers. We are limiting the pool of head coaches we can appoint because some simply won't operate in this manner What happens when we've applied said model throughout the club, who decides that, that is the right choice and what happens if we can't recruit quality players to for that style? Do we just recruit a lesser standard, whilst competitor teams focus on signing better players and perhaps moulding how they play around these better players. I made a comment 3 days ago on tactics thread that Bolton would overload our left side and 2 of the 3 goals in the games before last night came from putting service in from our left side into the box for strikers to finish, we did nothing to stop this as we couldn't adapt, Nathan baxter kicked to this area they targeted it and sure enough 1st goal comes from exactly this scenario. So easy to work out an opposition managers dream.
We never had a direct relationship with another club. We were never part of a group of clubs as they were not owned by the same group of owners. Some of our former board had interests in other Eurpoean clubs. We did loan players to at least one of these. This does not make us part of a group of clubs. We asked this on multiple occasions to different owners/directors including Paul Conway. This was always the answer.
Football clubs don’t run like normal businesses though tbf. If they lived within their means, most clubs would run out of money.
I know we don't have any other options (which means we're stuck with them of course), but I really wish they would all pack up and go!!.
I think if we don't get promoted the club is at a crossroads and the board need to decide which route we take' we either recruit sensibly with players that have proven they can operate well in this division and make a real attempt to get promoted or we carry on with the casino culture punts with the hope of finding a diamond in the ruff while resigning ourselves to being a lower league team with the likes of Donny' Port vale' Burton albion and Port vale' the ball will be well and truly in the owners court.
Good post Gally and I’m also a person who listens to other peoples opinions and I’m open for people to try and make me look at thinks differently from another persons perspective. However…….although I respect your views and don’t entirely disagree with them, I do feel that the board have totally destroyed our season this term. It’s ok to give them time, I get that and I agree that the options aren’t great should they go. They are custodians of our great club and won’t be here forever. Fans will tho and we are the customers that they have let down. The posts title may have misguided some. I added question marks to start a debate. It wasn’t about the owners “leaving”. It was a question to suggest that maybe we need a board of director change. Get people in who know the game. Patrick got Maurice Watkins in. Why can’t we get football people in who can actually run a football club instead of a scattergun spreadsheet approach with a board of directors who have no experience at all in making football decisions. They needed experience at the top to help them understand the mechanics of running a football club. Instead……they’ve tried to do it without and made a complete mess of it especially this season. I’ve no doubt their hearts are in the right place and they do want what’s best. They need to get football people in tho…..not analysts who are number crunchers. We aren’t a number as a club. We are a fan base and have some fantastic people (yourself one of them) who do great things yet they’ve sacked or got rid of some who have given them a lot of years service whilst also letting people move on due to some “rumoured” fall out. You have to ask why people are leaving sometimes.
I do agree with a lot of this sentiment. However, let's not forget that Cryne had a LOT of opposition, particularly towards the end (and actually still does). Reality is that there were plenty who were saying he had done his time and needed to find new owners. There were also plenty who questioned what Maurice Watkins actually did. Fans are fickle, with very short memories and often just completely unrealistic and irrational. The Twitter response to Collins and STs for example, was just unreal. Absolutely hounding the Club to sack Collins and extend the ST deadline. They did both those things. Then fans immediately went on the attack, saying they only sacked Collins to sell more ST, and sacking him without a replacement was crazy. I honestly have no clue why anyone in their right mind would want to run an EFL football club.
But the board have brought people in to run the club.Maladan and Stormez. The thing is they've only been here 5 minutes which isn't long enough to implement their ideas. Maladen especially is well experienced in recruitment and club organization.Lets give them time.
But be careful apparently get kicked out of ground for shouting sack the board, but the board seems reluctant to communicate with the fans except for a forum twice a year, and then we get told a load of bull
That's the headline we had when Conway and Lee's consortium took over. The reality turned out to be somewhat different from the headline.
Football full of billionaire story's I give you our very own Chein and co turned out to be smoke and mirrors. He maybe he is a billionaire but if the money not spent wisely and the right man put in charge you can soon spend a fair chunk going no where look at that pillock at S6
I would totally agree with this sentiment, but it's worth noting that the first significant decision making process they've been involved with was the Thalhammer non-recruitment, which wasn't exactly reassuring. Jon Flatman has been involved in the Fan Advisory Board setup meetings, so those attending them will have had some interaction with him. My first impressions were that he's more of a straight-shooter than Khaled was in terms of answering questions and providing updates, but that's based on very limited evidence so far.
I'd like to hear about the Thalhammer non recruitment from the club. The fact that Maladen is very experienced makes the decision somewhat strange.
Absolutely. The transparency that we get regarding the Thalhammer situation will be a good test of what we can expect from the new executive board members. On current information, it appears to be an utter shambles, both in terms of the execution of the appointment and in the judgement call in thinking he was the ideal target to take the club forward. Currently, my confidence in them, based on this, is that they're unlikely to be an improvement on Khaled, which is a scary prospect. My hope is that they'll get on the front foot and seek to address this proactively with the fanbase.
