Just seen the highlights. I dont want to make excuses but. In the first game their 3rd goal shouldn't have stood. In the second game, I've just seen it, Cosgrove should have had a penalty. I sometimes do wonder if the elf has an agenda. We should be proud of the boys.
Their first goal at Oakwell was offside too. Could quite easily have gone our way results wise had referees been up to par.
There were some decisions that might well have gone the other way and may have affected the result. That is true. But there isn’t an agenda. Let’s be fair. The first on Friday was just offside but you can’t claim an agenda for that, it wasn’t yards off, the linesman’s position was poor, a couple of yards in front of play, but that was unintentional, he couldn’t give it offside as from his angle it wouldn’t have looked it - and the ref couldn’t have possibly seen it. I put that down to a poor phase of play from the linesman, not an agenda. Other than that, they got a penalty they might not have. They got the third goal on Friday which might have been disallowed (I thought had we got the foul we’d have been lucky, Jerome didn’t do very much). However they also had goals both Friday and last night ruled out for pretty soft fouls as well. Another ref might have disallowed Cosgrove’s first for jumping all over Gethin Jones. It didn’t all go against us. We in the end came up just short; we were good enough to trouble the side we played but not defensively sound enough to restrict them. It was a fair reflection of the two ties and the season; I was impressed at how we battled back, and am more confident going into next season now than I was before last night. I’m not blaming referees for us being in league one still - not this time.
I said to my dad that if refs were consistent with decisions then I you could understand it but often on the same game there are inconsistency with what they give or not
It's the inconsistency. There's many a time I've seen us not being given a penalty or been on the end of a dodgy call. Then the week after the same incident happens on telly and it the opposite decision. The foul on Kitching at Wembley. That same thing happened recently. Penalty awarded. I remember Burton away, obvious handball on the line. A week later in a Prem match a penalty was given for the mot innocuous ball to hand I've ever seen. I really irks
Discussed the refs with mates yesterday and although it seems we only get s#it refs...they are mostly the same for most sides. The penalty count was baffling last season and it was relatively low this...but I actually think last nights ref was ok and would have probably disallowed their third at oakwell. One thing that experience gets you is a better ability to influence the ref....(buying fouls and cheap free kicks).
