2004 style rebuild needed. Clear 90% of them out and recruit proper players with experience and lads who actually want to be here.

I think the treatment of MDG is harsh here. He was excellet first half of season. At the side of Pines I think he'd be an excellent addition.

Im looking forward to seeing our team sheet without the names
    Liam Roberts
    Jordan awilliams
    Nicky Cadden
    Herbie Kane
    Devante Cole

    The side looks stronger already.

Will all do well at whatever clubs they end up as. Shame we've had to play Williams in a wrong position because he's been excellent for us at wing back/right back.

Hope we keep cadden and he can regain his form from last season in a better set up for him.

With kane, he could turn into prime pirlo and fans would find something. Best for him if he leaves.

Bet Cole is gutted. Think he could have earned a very good contract in January somewhere, maybe even a struggling championship club - not sure where he ends up now.

Shame about Roberts' injury, he was by far the best keeper in the league before it

Williams has had a very inconsistent season, not helped by playing out of position but he definitely didn’t down tools imo

He's been on books over the last number of years and had chances in 1st team but never been able to lock down a slot.

He's had chances out on loan to impress and again never been able to lock down a spot there either.

Lovely lad for sure and it's a shame cos he's a local lad but he's not good enough for a team aiming for promotion in L1

MDG with some actual defenders alongside him will be a good player. Hard doing the work of 3 men every game.

I don’t know why we don’t play him as the defensive midfielder, looks suited to that. When Pines was fit the signs were there though that he’d be better in a back three away from the centre.

It's all well and good people saying 'needs a complete rebuild', but are those people going to give a brand new team time to gel, or are they just going to expect 11 brand new players to magically come together?

Other defenders could say same, that they would be better with good defenders around em lol. MDG is too slow and not strong enough, he needs to be good enough himself besides others coming in to make him look good

Na sorry never been 'excellent' way too slow.. not great in the air and easily gets bullied at set plays.. not bad with his feet tho and got a brain.. can pick a pass and decent throw ins... But at the muck n bullets of center half play he falls short..

We'll need a lot better than him Lopata and Shepherd if we want to do any better than we've done this season..

This discussion reminds me of the last 12 months at Donny Rovers. Their fans were wanting rid of most of the players cos they were '****', but now under a good coach those same players are suddenly top quality!

We are a team that have been poorly coached all season & everything that made us good last season (pressing, forward passing etc) has been drained from us.
The team has no confidence until like the 2nd half last night when they stop taking the easy option and just 'go for it'

Undoubtedly, there are players at Barnsley that do need a fresh start and ones that will never be good enough for even L1, BUT under a good coach and better recruitment, things can turn around.

Recruitment definitely needs to be less scattergun (4 RWB's, signing Dallas and Shaw when have Jalo coming through).
With a decent academy, recruitment should be just adding quality not quantity and the squad bolstered by giving youngsters a pathway into the 1st team squad.

I think making an effort and having a good game are two different things. It's entirely possible to put the effort in and have a poor game. For me Williams, Cadden and Kane have worked hard in games but have sometimes just not been able to impact the game. Kane was a good example last night - I wouldn't criticise his work rate, he just didn't affect the game as we know he can. Similarly, McAtee worked hard (as he always does) over both legs but other than his assist for the first goal last night I think he was poor in both matches - he just didn't impact either games imo.

I think we have to accept that players sometimes lose form for whatever reason but I think labelling them as not trying / not making an effort is unfair.

Amaazing that MDG came a clear second on this forum's Player of the Season, what with him being so crap.

Just goes to show how stupid and ill informed and clueless the posters on here are.

There is actually no reality to 'lets get rid of the dead wood' and have a clear out..
The reality is.. it's only the players you want to keep that get offer's from elsewhere.
It's impossible to move any players on who are under contract and don't want to go.. or it costs ya big time.
And before the club admit to dropping a b0ll0ck and signing duds.. they'll give em to the new coach to work with..
Remember Dallas signed a four year deal.. players like him are going to be around a fair while yet..

I'm happy to keep em all an see what new coach can do with em, a decent coach could turn em all into swans,

    Great post.

I feel that with many of our fans they’ve just got this idea in their heads that because a player is out of contract they aren’t trying.

I’ve often read criticism of Williams, Kane & Cadden for supposedly not caring but for me these have been 3 of the most committed players in the squad.

I thought Williams was excellent last night. He was brave with the ball & started several attacks off whilst not neglecting his defensive duties.

I’ve found the worship of McAtee a bit strange really. I don’t think he’s been that good. I wouldn’t say he’s been much better than Cole these past few months. He’s capable of great individual moments but he seems a bit lacking in terms of having a football brain with constantly getting caught offside, giving away needless fouls & letting all the opposition know exactly where he wants the ball playing with over the top hand gestures. I’d be shocked if he’s a regular starter in the championship next season.

Likewise with De Gevigney. I can’t believe he’s finished 3rd in our player of the year vote & won the player of the year for the Star (I think it was them). He’s nowhere near good enough yet. There’s plenty of potential there, he’s a fantastic passer & I can’t fault his effort but he makes a ridiculous amount of individual errors.

Basically I’ve never found myself disagreeing more with what gets posted on here & social media. It feels like I’ve watched a different match half the time.
