That’s because like many other threads it’s turning into Prime Ministers questions, where no one answers anyone else’s questions, and instead resorts to making their same point again, louder, or resorts to name calling.
How do you achieve player loyalty? A successful team that progresses consist with their ambitions. Personally I see an advantage of League One being able to promote more of our own homegrown, potentially supporters of the club.
That isn't the alternative is it. I am well aware of the need to sell. Selling isn't an issue. The issue is the diabolical replacements brought in to replace those players. Numerous gaffs from so called professional people, they can be forgiven slightly for the recruitment as that isn't their remit entirely. But they employ people to take care of these things, they kept Khaled in position when it was obvious to anyone he wasn't up to the job. If it was just on field problems you could look past it but it isn't, off the field is probably in a worse state. That's on them.
You can count the number of loyal players in the football league using fingers and toes. The vast majority of Footballers and managers are all about personal achievement I.e. being as high up the pyramid as possible and about how much they’re getting paid.
I think Leon Wobscholl got it spot on and to be fair he is only writing what many supporters feel and know is true. I don't like the situation either but you can't really argue with the point she made. Plus this close season I can't see any of our current squad bringing in 3-4 million as last season, only Connell, Philips and Jalo may be saleable assets. When (not if) Kane, Cole, Williams, Cadden, Macatee and Roberts leave, we are gonna be thin on the ground players wise. Can't see Benson (injury prone) and Cundy( out of contract and Injury probe) making a regular contribution either. I short it's looking bleak...
Loyalty is a 2 way street and the board show precious little to the players' they are no more than a commodity' Connor chaplin said as much in an interview' they have to be valued as players and more importantly as people and not just assets' the whole club ethos needs to change' buying players should be done to bolster the team to try to achieve promotion rather than everything being about future sell on value.
Well said by Leon. Remember when Khaled said we'd a bad season because we got no bids for our players. We were a few games from a Premier League return FFS. Nothings changed from then.
Thing to consider is just because Leon says it, it’s not really confirmation of anything. He has no more clue about running a football club than anyone that posts on here in all fairness. It’s just his opinion, and he only has to read social media to know it will be well received by some. If anything it’s lazy journalism when if you think of some BFC supporters as a stick of rock, ‘dunt wanner guwup’ would run all the way through. He’s just preaching to the converted.
So we simply carry on like this? Make no wonder season ticket sales are likely to tank. If we are truly now reduced to having to abandon any idea of building an effective team because our very survival depends upon a policy of buy cheap and flog for profit, then I despair.
It’s called lazy journalism. ‘Feel’ & ‘know’ are two completely different things too, but far too often mixed up by football supporters.
Can you give me any insight into why they came here in the first place? I’m told by some of the posters on here that it wasn’t to make money. If not, then why?
You’d have to ask the vast majority of football club owners, because the vast majority don’t make money.
I'm pretty sure it's been said a few times including from Neerav himself that he started as an investor with a love of football and then became a fan. JAQ I'd imagine started purely as a speculative investor sold a line by Conway. None of them can have any remaining illusions that there's any money to be made in running a club of our size. I'd have expected JAQ to have jumped ship but she akso has got heavily involved. The women's team, taking FIFA courses etc. I'm well aware they've made mistakes and certain things need to change but they've recently put in extra management on the DOF side and the Administration side so, hopefully, things should improve. I'm sure a lot of the militants on here see me as a club "toady" I think was the expression used elsewhere. In fact I was vocal in opposition to Lee and Cryne as were many others. What gets my goat though is those who constantly refuse to listen to the facts about the club, won't accept the reality of running a club and think that by pointing the finger and shouting loud enough they can transform us into something we've never been. Conway put us back five years. He shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a football club. We're still paying the price for that. Eventually with this Board or another, we'll get back to the Championship and have, at times, a decent crack at it. But there's no magic spell or divine right. Certain elements of our support won't accept that though.
My opinion only, but I think it’s a common football model. When PMG/Chien Lee bought the club it was on the basis that the media rights from the EFL were undervalued, and that there was a gap in the market in terms of developing data driven signings to generate revenue via player/coach trading. Promotions and relegations were irrelevant as if you dropped down a league you just bought cheaper players and sold them on when you got promoted again. The first critical mistake they made was the appointment of Schopp after Val. Asbaghi was another mistake. Since ousting of Chien Lee and Paul Conway you could argue that the current chairman has invested significantly to a) dilute the share base and take significant control, b) kept the club solvent, c) appointed two managers who have got us the play offs in successive seasons to try and get us out of League One. In my opinion by not selling players in January and keeping faith with players that were out of contract this summer has cost the club potentially income from promotion and additional income from transfers further down the line. But this was done to keep momentum in a squad which in January had genuine top 2 aspirations. I agree that appointment of the correct head coach is key this summer but disagree it has to be anyone we’ve heard of, or someone who has managed in League One or above. It’s now ( I assume) Mladen’s responsibility to appoint the best man for the job. We never know if a manager/head coach is going to be any good regardless of how well they’ve done elsewhere anyway and there are plenty of coaches that were fantastic at a lower league club, took the step up and failed miserably, and vice versa. We just need to get who ever Sormaz thinks is the best person in as soon as possible and support them in the transfer market as best we can. I would expect us to have as much money this year as last year due to staged payments.
My view. Lee and Conway deffo yes to make money (that's how the club was sold to them) but not sure if they do given their approach unless there are some indirect motivators. Neerhav apparently just wanted a share in a football club and as a result became a Barnsley fan and given his actions since I believe him. Too much is made of t h e spreadsheet and its impact imo. Only time will tell, but I see small changes for the better under Neerhav. The rest are just investors and who knows their motivations.
He's stating the obvious to say we aren't ready for the Championship. BUT let's not kid ourselves that another season in this level isn't a disaster. I would have still liked us to have got promoted this season for the extra millions and the hope that we could put together some type of team that would find themselves better than at least three others.
