If you look around League One, there's maybe 3 other clubs more attractive, have you seen some of the tinpot outfits at this level? And people think our ground is ancient, have you seen some of the sheds around?? We have a well run and well regarded academy system, a reputation for finding (ok and selling) good players, teams don't seem to mind loaning us their good players, we have a large support (at this level), a history of playing above this level. I think they will have got plenty of people applying.
Im talking more about the constraints put upon a manager taking the role by the board, its just impossible.
There will be a queue a mile long for the job, simply because a managers job is the best job in the world. If you are successful at a lower club you get poached by a bigger club with better wages,if you are unsuccessful you get the sack and compensated, have a holiday break then on to the next one.
I'm not so sure. Our squad will be significantly weaker next season, there won't be much to spend but the expectation level will be just as high. Also the sacking of Collins (rightly or wrongly) might deter a few. Add in all the restrictions that coaches have to work under with us and it's not hard to see why it takes so long for us to find someone.
Could it be the number of applicants the reason it takes so long. But that statement would just be defending the board.
I think were a very attractive proposition for a young manager to build a reputation on. I was very much into the Duff long term project idea and in my opinion that's the way to go..I think our new gaffer will be someone like Duff was from a lower league with potential...sadly the Warhammer link looked like the bad old days but we've dodged a bullet and now (even if it takes a bit) we can get it right.
Having just watched highlights of MK Dons v Crawley, I would not be impressed by the appointment of Williamson. It would seem an odd decision to try to remedy our dreadful defensive issues by inviting someone whose team has just lost a League Two play-off semi-final 8-1 on aggregate to take over as head coach.
