The problem this season was that I, and a lot of other fans, found the style of football played so mind numbingly dull and boring that there was little enjoyment in a win which meant a lot less happiness and excitement to post about even when we had won because we were bored to tears. Funnily enough I've been most excited or keen to post when we've played an away game and I've followed it on here with no commentary or video because then when you see we've scored it's pure excitement and I'll post about that. When I've watched Collins football a goals gone in and my reaction was mild because I was bored and even the goal did little to excite me. In the derby and Bolton games where we were attacking and playing the style of football that excites me I was up and celebrating wildly (ok I shouted yes and jumped up) but when I was bored I just couldn't muster the energy to.
Does that make me a bad person?

Pretty much exactly what I've been saying the last few days. Abused and belittled for having a different opinion and yet apparently I'm the toxic one

    Ok then

To be honest I wasn't remotely thinking of you when I made the original post. You've made your position clear this season, but your posts are always reasoned and your points backed up. You also regularly come up with constructive ideas to improve things and move the club forward.

My irritation is very much reserved for those who only post when we concede or lose, baselessly criticise everything that the club does and clog up the board with predictions of future woe, while not offering any sort of constructive points of their own.

I don't think this is that a new thing though. I vividly remember hours after the Bradford game that sealed our most historic achievement. I got back home, euphoric beyond words, huge beaming smile, to be met with my Grandads stoic expression and before I could say anything he said.... "they'll be down again next season"

Different formats, maybe unfair expectations and certainly amplified through modern prisms... But its not new. Nor is it new that valid criticisms are glossed over by another clique that treat the club and all within it as a deity, a paragon of virtue and all that dare highlight issues or aspects for concern are treated as heretics.

You're not a bad person at all for feeling down in the dumps after being completely bored and unentertained game after game.
If people want to vent because they're frustrated or bored to death I can't see any problem at all unless it gets personal. If the reds win but the football is shi.te why not call out the crap entertainment even if there's 3 points in the bag? If the reds are in the play offs but the manager seems to be continually riding his luck why not criticise the manager's coaching and tactics in spite of league position? Call things how you see them, explain yourself and don't be rude. If people have a problem with that then shame on them

    Surprised this thread still going?

Must be hard running side by side with the enthusiasm created by the Stendel/Hourihane one.

Bugger! I’ve contributed to keeping it going!

Except there is no clique. Take a look back at the posting history of the supposed "clique" and I'll guarantee you there's plenty of pretty sturdy criticism of the club when it's deserved and rational.
Take a look at my posts on Hex, Khaled, Conway etc. But hey, I'm not rational I'm a "happy clapper" and part if a "clique".

There seems to be little place for a fair & balanced view on social media (including on here at times). Either you slate the club (deserved or not) or you’re a “happy clapper”.
We are all Barnsley fans wanting the best for our team & club (& ourselves) - there really is no need to bait other fans

I'll accept any reasoned criticism of the club. There's certainly plenty of scope for it. Not for repetitive and personal vitriol though.
There's valid areas for discussion on player recruitment which has gone a little awry but, in my opinion, thanks to the mismanagement of Conway in the main. Question marks about the appointments and reluctance to get rid of Schopp then Asbaghi. Question marks about whether we have a set style of play or not...because Ismael and Schopp were a world apart. Our comms are often amateurish.
All and more up for discussion.
But the Tinpot, Jokewell merchants just want to fling the s**t around just because the club isn't performing at the level they believe is their right.

There's a handful of posters that can't even be classed as pessimists - more wind-up merchants - that can be spotted a million miles away and there are a handful of 'deity' posters that conform to what DWLC is referencing. Your reply seems to indicate that you think you are a member of the latter, which I would say you are not.

Lol, I'm pretty sure I'm perceived as a member of the latter by some purely because I detest the negative vitriol of certain posters. Thanks for the opinion that I'm not though.:)

I know you're not in that camp. There is definitely a clique though.

As well as a lot of sense and difference of opinion on this site, there is also a lot of emotion. I’m guilty of reacting negatively when things don’t go our way.
I’ve often wondered after more that 60 years of watching the reds whether Barnsley is a particularly pessimistic place, where people grew up not expecting the best so they never got disappointed. I can contrast that with our blue striped neighbours who seem to delusionally consider themselves to be world class in spite of the evidence.
Are our fans more negative than others? A normal spread would expect there to be a mixture of optimism and pessimism among the population.

Who's in it Danny? I genuinely don't know. I think that pretty much eveybody on here wants what is best for the club. Not the Board, not individual directors but the club and the team and what they represent.
The ones who are accused of being "toadies". It's ridiculous. To think anyone has more loyalty to the Board than the club is just daft. Why would they? Could we have a better Board? I guess we could. Ones who would put in more money with no strings and were personally cuter on football matters perhaps. But we could have much, much worse. Take a look at Bury, Macclesfield, Chester, Bolton, Wednesday, Scunthorpe, Southend, Portsmouth, Darlington, Luton, Boston United, Wigan and that's just off the top of my head. All ruined or set back by decades by appalling owners and yet ours, who actually put money in, are treated like scum.
I'm not having a go at you on this one Danny. Far from it, just using your post to carry on my point. :)

Agreed - and my post in this thread wasn't aimed at ST either, or other posters who have been "Anti-Collins" (for want of a better word). Its aimed at those who start a thread after every goal conceded simply titled "sack him" by Barnsley Bomber, Scott or Coucom as examples.

Maybe ST is a bad person in other ways, but not in this respect....

I'm not going to name them publicly, but I'd hope its not difficult to work out who they are if they still post.

Its not the board they support, but their perceived entity of BFC. Ive never once seen them criticise an action of the club, but I've seen them goad others under the veiled cloak of being "positive"

And its one of the aspects that make this place its most toxic. You have two rival camps. And they battle down the ages. It will be forever thus.
