    With Jalo on the wing.

I think this is the best and maybe only way to bring his full potential through.

Anyone think he can make as a striker in league 1 over the next couple of seasons?

I don't think he will shine in a front 2 but as a winger he could smash it.

I’ll never understand the obsession folk have with 442

Who was the last team to play it and win a premier league? Or a Champions League Final?

For me it’s overly simple and easy to counteract if the opposition coach has any nouse whatsoever.

Still not convinced about Jalo from what I’ve seen. Obviously stands out in U21s and U18s but yet to see evidence of him doing it at first team level. Think folk are pinning too much on him at this stage. Been loads down the years who’ve been touted as the next big thing but never broke through. Really really hope he does but he’s a long way to go. L1 is a tough environment…..even more so next season.

Maybe years ago but it’s a different game now. There’s a reason no successful teams use 442 anymore and it’s not because you know more than the best managers in the world.

But we're not competing in the Greed League or the Champions League. Our players are simply incapable of producing elite level football.

Ok, name the last team to win league one playing 4-4-2?
It’s a naive tactic that only works against another team playing 4-4-2. At least in the rigid, 2 banks of 4 type formation.
No idea why people are obsessed with it except for nostalgic purposes.

sound back 4 , variable midfield 4 with a good front two and you don’t think we would win more than we lose? We aren’t playing the best in the world!
Footballs not a complicated game, get good players and they can play any way.

Did it? It might be age playing tricks with my mind, but I thought we played 3-5-2. Davis/Moses, Appleby & De Zeeuw as the three central defenders. Eaden & Thompson/Jones as wing backs, Redfearn & Sheridan/Bosancic as two central midfielders, with Bullock or Marcelle in front of these two. Finally, Wilkinson & Hendrie/Liddell as the strikers.

    Football has moved on

And I'm pretty sure we didn't play 4-4-2 under DW either

    Edit, JLWBigLil pipped me!

The best managers in the world don't have Barry Cotter trying to attack and defend all at the same time.

And that's the big problem with lower league football, it's full of people who are trying to imitate the very best in the world with players who are simply not good enough to do it instead of playing a system that actually suits the limited ability players they have at their disposal.

Also didn't Argentina win the world cup playing 4-4-2?
