Looks a weak midfield at a glance, but then Stones and Bellingham can play there, but without Stones the defence looks powderpuff

Surprised Toney has got the nod over Solanke.

I think I'd have Bowen over Grealish, as he has more of an end product.

Every time one of these comes round I'm struck by how few players I recognise! Premier League and international football is starting to feel like one of those Football Manager games which you end up playing into the 2060s.

He can also cover at left back. as @gaz97 says, I'd rather have a left footer, but I'd rather play a very good right footer there than a decent left footer. We seem to be lacking left footers in the squad in general. Disagree Trippier isn't international level still.

From the players we've got I'd be playing:

    Pickford
Walker Stones Branthwaite Shaw (Trippier if Shaw not fit)
    Rice
    Saka Bellingham Foden Gordon
    Kane

Yeah i think Gomez would be the go to player to fill in at left back especially with his pace i just think Trippier has struggled in the prem this season and made a few mistakes.

Other than Maguire (if fit) for Branthwaite that would be my team

Yeah Gomez has filled in at left back for Liverpool - Trippier likewise for England.

I'd have taken Mitchell from Palace. In good form, never seems to miss a game.

The obvious ones to miss out are Trafford, Konsa or Dunk, Wharton, Bowen, Toney then two more.

I'd play the inverted full back that all the top coaches are playing these days - Trent joining Rice in midfield to allow Bellingham to play further forward.

I would imagine if everyone is fit, the first game will be....

    Pickford
    Walker Stones Maguire Shaw
    Rice Gallagher
    Saka Bellingham Foden
    Kane

It's difficult, because Saka, Foden and Palmer are all very similar players. Left footers that drift to the right wing and cut in. We usually have a right footer on the left (Grealish/Rashford), but both are out of form. Maybe he plays all 3 and puts foden left.

    Any keeper

    James, Dier, Tomorrow, Chilwell

    Henderson, Ward-Prowse

    Sancho, Mount, Sterling

    Rashford

some amount of talent not even in the provisional squad.

Its not necessarily the squad that determines how good things are going to be, its how the manager sets them up and has them playing. I'm not and never have been convinced by Southgate as a tactical coach. I dont think he gets the best out of pace and skill and he's overly cautious. So, for me the proof of the pudding is how the team are organised at the tourney...the squad looks ok to me but we'll have to see won't we?

I think so on the left. Better defensively. Palmer has been fantastic this season though, and I’d definitely have him on the pitch if it comes to penalties.

Happy with this. Picked players on form. We're in with a very good shout of finally winning a trophy!

I don’t know why people are surprised at Henderson been dropped. He’s dropped other so called favourites when he’s had other options in their positions like Mount & Sterling.

Trent’s emerged as a midfielder & Wharton & Mainoo are coming through so he’s dropped him.

There really hasn’t been much competition in central midfield over the last couple of years.

Wharton should definitely go. He’s the only natural Rice replacement & the only other central midfielder that’s defensively minded.

I’ve watched him in 4 full games since he joined Palace & the lads been brilliant
