Bradford, Huddersfield and Attendence Wanderers still giving it the big one regards crowd size with cheap tickets. Been discussed many times 9k at £400 or 18k at £200 still amases to the same turnover but leaves the potential to increase the fanbase, more merchandise, food and a full stadium, but then there's the risk you won't sell 18k. Often wondered if the club should trial dummy applications based on cut price ST's to gage the interest across the borough and beyond as a way to increase the fan base. Running a dummy application scheme electronically would give them a gage on potential, may poach new fans from the wider region.
I think the match day experience itself needs improving first before we even consider the pricing structure. Last season was proof that you can improve the attendance despite a price increase, if there's a chance that it's going to be worthwhile coming. I suspect that the number of season tickets sold this time will have taken a hit, but I wouldn't put it down to the price.
Fully understand where your coming from, but would say there's only so much can be done in that regard due to stadium restrictions etc, not saying there isn't tweaks that can't be made, but I think it needs further investment to grow significantly, might worth gaging the level they can grow first before major investment?
It costs the club more - police, stewards, etc. - to host a 18k crowd (which is above our current capacity and leaves no seats for visitors) than to host a 9k crowd. If the gate receipts are the same, then it depends on whether we increase other sales (food/drink/etc.) by enough to offset the additional losses.
Sadly, I think that very much informs their thinking. If they get the same amount of money, it’d be preferable to have fewer fans there that are cheaper and easier to control. Same with unexpected walk up on the day fans, they’re harder to account for and are actively discouraged.
It can all depend on how you look at things 1 adult 1 under 14 at Bolton £478 at Barnsley £448 this helps parents bring children which is the future of the club
Don't get this 'match day experience ' thing.. Just get it right on the field everything else will follow on..
Obviously that's the prime factor. But something like Lincoln's fan zone would be brilliant, and surely not very difficult to organise with all the land around the stadium? A variety of local snap, local booze, reasonably priced without ridiculous queues. Absolutely not rocket science.
I just wish what ever we do we get every game full, love the atmosphere of a full house and it must be good for the players.
We've just finished in the play-offs for the second consecutive season, and 3rd time in 4 seasons, yet it looks like our attendances are going to fall dramatically this coming season. I wouldn't apportion that solely to what's going on, on the field. Many have said that they find going to Oakwell as a chore in recent years, and again, I wouldn't put that down solely to the football, as last season aside, we've been decent at home. I've never believed that the crowds would come back solely if we were top of the league, as the best atmosphere's I've witnessed down at Oakwell for me were during that period of treading water between 2006 and 2014.
I think the plan is to invest in the stadium eventually. There are things that could be done to make going to Oakwell less of a chore, which are inexpensive and could be implemented straight away. Proper maintenance of the beer pumps in the Ponte End as an example.
Totally agree, A couple of pints in Mount, in ground at 2.50, quick pee then in my seat for kick off. Don't give a rat's arse about TVs, food outlets, etc....
