So you'd rather have Collins than Darrell Clarke? Fair enough, the game is all about opinions. All I'll say is that I very much doubt Collins would have dragged Cheltenham from where they were 11 games in to very nearly stopping up on the last day. Proven manager in the lower leagues. I'd say he's a perfect fit for where we sit right now.
Msg just in from my bro in law...a CTFC season ticket holder: " Looks like it’s a done deal from this end. Six figure compensation apparently. DC will have a great connection with the fans, he’s a real people person." Come. On!
I have no idea about Clarke. He's another candidate definitely getting the job this summer which makes him about the 5th or 6th to be in that position. If he gets the job I'll not be on his back, however we perform. That will not be true of some of the people currently berating me for my tame comments in this thread, I can already assure you of that. I did find it somewhat amusing that we've replaced a manager who secured us a playoff position with someone whose team was relegated. So I expressed that to see the reaction. It was as expected.
So, the people who weren't happy about the appointment of Collins, his tenure and his sacking are now unhappy that someone is saying the exact same things they've been saying for the last year?
You need to start abusing the new bloke. Really shout vile stuff at him. You'll be OK then - it's the way forward.
You just get a gut feeling about some Managers and Head Coaches. Collins never inspired me although I was sad at his departure. In fact Collins' departure was handled worse of them all if I'm honest. That's in the past though. One thing Clarke needs to be is strong and get his demands in early. It's the best time to catch this board. (I don't think they backed Collins at all to be honest). That would be one of the things I'd put to them if I were Clarke.
Best of luck to the guy as far as I'm concerned. He'll have my full support. If he comes in and plays an attractive, positive, attacking brand of football then he'll continue to have my support. When my support wains, as it did with Collins very early on, is if he plays a tentative, negative style of football. We're at our best when we actually go at teams and don't give them time and space. That is a must. There's no reason why we cant be the fastest and fittest team in the league, that's what got us out of it the last time we did. COYR!!
I agree. He's got a decent squad to pick from and some players like Shepherd and Lopata that might not have been League 1 players last season but will be this year. Oddly I can't see defence being a problem this year.
Pros Proper blokes bloke with a good beard Not Scottish Got a proper lads first name and it’s spelt correctly Not Austrian Likes to pair a gillet with a cap - bloketastic Cons He’s from Mansfield so we’re truly ****** if we want to go on strike Seen at the Gold cup festival wearing a pair of twin buckled monk shoes in tan First name is a bit too African American He’s got a UEFA pro licence so he’ll be fluent in tippy tappy Uses a rainbow lanyard for his coaching whistle
Clarke played against us twice from what I can gather for Hartlepool, both games were on Boxing Day. 2003 we won 1-2 Betsy scored both, Clarke was booked and 2005 drew 1-1 Marc Richards pen for us. Can`t remember either but then that`s nowt new for me.
Live 15 minutes from Cheltenham and know a few Cheltenham fans who are gutted to lose Clarke and rate him very highly. Plays decent football with a decent record in the lower levels to back it up. Im excited by this appointment.
It would be the absolute pinnacle of my fandom and I would retire immediately as it couldn’t get better than that.
