looks a hard man -hope he will kick a certain few in the 1st team a good kick up the arseienda or kick em out
I will judge him on his results, but my impression is he's a lower league slogger - Bristol Rovers fans (who do generally like him) have pointed out he was given a big budget the season they made the top half of L1 but "blew it" on some rubbish players, and lost the dressing room. Mixed bag from Vale fans as well, although again - the majority said he shouldn't have been sacked and was going through the personal issues. He's had some Lee Johnson style losing streaks along the way. I think the job at Barnsley will be too big for him, not wanting to go all Wednesday like. Before anyone starts, I hope he does well, he will get my full support until I see a reason otherwise, just offering a viewpoint.
That's a fair enough comment if that's what you think at the moment. I personally don't go in for this 'he looks hard so he'll make em play' attitude that some have. I dont subscribe to the 'he has a great cv so he'll be great for Barnsley' comments either. Bottom line for me he's the new Barnsley manager so give him 100% support now and see where he takes us. He has the preseason and hopefully complete boardroom support for his vision. He's never been Barnsley manager before and he could be the best coach we've ever had or he could be utterly useless for us regardless of past history. We'll start getting clues a few games into the season. None of us know how this will pan out at the moment but we all desperately want him to succeed.
As John Dennis said just prior to our Premiership promotion, choosing a new manager/coach is not an exact science, so we may have employed a man to take us up or not, time will tell of course, Clarke will receive my full backing with the hope the board does exactly the same.
I've just been watching Port Vale's Play Off Final victory over Mansfield in 2022. It was very emotional seeing Darrell Clarke and what he achieved after such after an awful, tragic, personal problem.
