Hey Frank lol, I thought that as well when we finally made the appointment the other day.
It got me thinking about the potential which we still have right now, and if Clarke can build on it, with support from above. :)

Yeah I’m starting to feel good about the club.
    - New CEO, DOF and Secretary
    - Mladen gave a good interview & seems on it
    - experienced manager through the door
    - hourihane linked
    - Conway long gone

let’s start give the club our full backing!

More than I was 3 days ago however, not getting carried away as managers and people at the club saying what we want to hear is one thing, the board backing them and giving us a chance is another

I'm not. Too many times in recent years we've been raised then dropped. What is going to change?
Wasn't there a Who song "Won't get fooled again"?

I think most fans would agree there, because that has indeed happened to us too many times before.
But we can at least hope and wonder 'what if..' again, at the moment. In a positive way. :)

If you’re not giddy for a new season. Don’t believe anything will change and feel “fooled”. I’d find a new way to spend your time on a Saturday.

Exciting times ahead. Let’s get behind ‘em

Not really. I was excited last season about another promotion tilt but everyone was telling me how **** things were.

Now I think we’re in for a really tough season in a stronger league without 6 quality league one performers who rarely missed a game with very little money to replace them. Unless we manage to pick up at least half a dozen gems I think it’ll be mid-table at best.

Yep and also there's no fool like an old fool...
( I do have a bus pass)..but I'm willing to give them a chance and hope they learned from last year. Also the season tkt numbers are probably down and a whack in the pocket will teach em were serious about having a proper club. All good moves so far and unless they **** up were heading the right way..

I know Clarke said everyone will get a clean slate but firstly and brutally there are a number of players who need moving on.

    Styles (clearly wants away)

Shaw Dallas Watters Cotter (Plain and simply not good enough)

    Benson Mccarthy (injury issues)

He then needs proper backing and control in terms of incoming transfers.

I'm not getting giddy. Glad of two months free of meaningful games. Bringing in a new head coach doesn't change much. It's only a tiny scratch on the changes we need to make.

Nope, although the club deserves a bit of credit for the Clarke appointment, it’s a sensible one, plenty of experience etc so fairs fair on that front.

BUT, player recruitment, it’s a massive issue & I am waiting to see how it pans out over the next couple of months. I’m expecting quality over quantity, less of a scattergun approach, a bit of experience (not necessarily age).

More open communication & transparency 100% needs to improve as well.

I am quite anxious about next season due to the strength of league 1, there’s some big teams in this league, & i genuinely wouldn’t like to predict the promotion spots, but I think we have a smaller chance than some of clubs, Charlton, Lincoln, Wrexham, Bolton, Posh, not to mention the relegated clubs. I think realistically a top half finish just outside the playoffs whilst building something is the best we can hope for.

I hate having to keep mentioning them, but it does of course come down to the 'backing' from those above.
If they are just going to go with the Self sustainable thing, and sell everybody for a profit etc... then he/Clarke, and all of us, can forget about it!.

I'm not either - what was the season we were supposed to have made a ' marquee signing ' believed to be Kevin Phillips?

I think it’s too easy to overthink things mate. The notion that clubs set out to fool or rip off fans doesn’t sit well with me, in fact I’d go as far as to say some clubs have nearly gone out of business trying to attract new fans and retain them by spending money they don’t have.

When alls said and done, we spend just a few hrs a week at Oakwell, and the rest of the time guessing what’s going on and fuelled by rumours on the internet. It can get pretty ugly if you let yourself get involved - just look at Twitter.

I don’t think it’s good for anyone’s mental health to keep going to games thinking the club does things to displease them, yet it’s always been a thing and is now a more popular view because it’s online.

I think the key thing with expectation is establishing why your hopes were raised, ie did the club make any specific promises? Or are you going on the rumours circulated by those ‘in the know’, betting odds or just general gossip?

I actually do struggle with my mental health, and have done for about 15 yrs, I missed the whole of the last championship relegation season, I’d got too used to not going during Covid and just didn’t fancy it when the grounds reopened, probably best decision I ever made ;) Because of my day to day struggles I now see football in a totally different way. It’s just a hobby to me now. Yes I enjoy the company, joy and disappointment, but I don’t feel entitled to anything.

Unless there is a substantial change in the implementation of the recruitment and retention policy at Oakwell nothing changes with the appointment of the new head coach. If we continue with the sign as many punts from the lower league as possible without a thought to the needs of the squad approach in the hope that leads to maximum return on sales of players. We won't achieve sustained success.

I’ll start to get giddy if we get good replacements in who have a chance to effect the game at this level from the off. The new coach is the very definition of a lower league journey man, never promoted out of this league, so I don’t see what’s to get excited about.

It's a good start, Clarke seems passionate about coming to us. Recruitment is key for him now to get the players that suits Clarke's style of football. Didn't get this feeling when Collins joined us. Onwards and hopefully upwards. Tougher league 1 next season so not a given for top 6, 3 who come down will be up there and maybe 2 of promoted team will be top 10.

I know - let’s not get excited about our football team. Instead lets be glass is, at least, half empty and find another reason to have a go at the club.
Makes me wonder why the owners and staff even bother to try.

Spot on. The 'in the knows' have taken a reight pasting this time around - as they frequently do to be fair. I'm looking forward to hearing from Wednesday Loyal, once he's found somewhere to live having bet his house on Stendel.
I just can't get over those who are still judging them by their previous actions - on the 25th of May! For me this pre-season has started with a big positive and given me some hope that lessons are finally being learned. The real proof of the pudding, the recruitment, hasn't even started yet. I for one won't be judging them until they've had a chance to act and in the meantime my slate is wiped clean of past mistakes.
What's done is done, let's move forward and see what unfolds in the next two months.
