Ok so where do we fit in here ?... Rotherham always do well in this league, and surely Huddersfield and Birmingham will be amongst the few favourites. Bolton will be there or near again, and surely Wigan and Reading and Blacky, and maybe Charlton will also be a threat. Can Lincoln follow up the amazing form they showed this season, and Exeter and Stevenage as well could surprise some teams. And that's before I even mention the Lg Two promoted teams, Stockport, Mansfield, and that other team in red!.
will be a very tough league next year, with the teams coming down. top 6 should be our target, but again I think top 2 will remain out of reach
Yeah but you and we as a club can't keep doing that, where does that leave us ehh if we do that every season ?.
No idea where we will finish up. Football has a lot of surprises. A brand new season new start for everyone. Some clubs start off as they finished the previous season. Relegated clubs often take an age to get back to winning ways. Promoted ones do well if they've kept hold of most of the squad. We again will have lots of new faces. It'll be down to the Manager to get em to gel asap. Having some of the best players doesnt allus give you the best team. Stevenage did well but I reckon Steve Evan's thought he'd gone as far as he could take em. Although I do also think Rotherham offered him more money and a 3 yr contract. I'm not sure what he was on at Stevenage.
That's easy to answer. If we sack him end of next season because we aren't in the top 6 that leaves us in league one.
For me it's a big rebuild. Lost over half our team on their contracts expiring or loanees going back to their parent clubs. Of course we're getting our loaned out players back too. I can't see any clubs wanting to sign our players, probably only Connell and Phillips maybe could attract bids. I can't see us signing players, we can't afford to. We will be limited to our now 1st team squad and promoting some of our better young 'uns. Going to be a tough season with the teams coming down and Disney FC getting promoted.
I must say, it always sends shivers down my spine when you call Blackpool 'blacky' mate On a serious note, I actually think Charlton will do really well this season. They massively under performed last season, with that squad. I'm not sure on Rotherham yet, think they lost 16 players in total after end of season , so despite their early signings ( decent ones too tbf) they still have lots of work to do. I am genuinely excited though. Just have one of those feelings, which I didnt at the start of the season just gone. As with you, I expect Huddersfield and especially Birmingham to be right up there, but we've seen with 'big' clubs before it doesn't always happen first time - Bolton, Derby, Wednesday, Leeds, Portsmouth, Sunderland etc. Woulsnt mind Birmingham languishing in this league for a while, knock their fans down a peg or 2!
Closer to relegation than automatic promotion next season for me so nowhere near. I think we’ll probably have to sell Phillips to balance the books. I don’t trust our recruitment team to replace the players that left with quality after seeing last summers signings. I’m not convinced Connell is over his health condition. It took Cavendish over 2 years to get back to his best from the same illness. I don’t think Jalo’s anywhere near ready to be a regular starter at this level. I really hope to be proved wrong.
Early odds have us around 6th. Odds below are to win the league: Birmingham 4/1 Bolton 9/1 Huddersfield 11/1 Wrexham 12/1 Peterborough 12/1 Rotherham 14/1 Barnsley 14/1 Wycombe 16/1 Charlton 16/1 Only 365, Hills and Betvictor have priced it up and those odds are the best across the three. I’d say I’m optimistic about next year but then again I’m optimistic most years.
I’ve no expectations of top 6 next season if I’m honest. The recruitment team might surprise me and change my mind but I’m not holding my breath. Very happy with Clarke as manager. Just want to see us having a go at teams with an energetic pressing style. If we manage top 8 to 10 with squad we have right now we’ll have done well.
To all the naysayers on here, if we finish outside the top 6, ill sit and listen to an in depth analysis about why Frimpong is our most successful midfielder from Hemsey. I get why some may say outside the top 6, but I've also been told we'd be fighting off relegation for last 2 seasons as well. I genuinely think we are in fir a good season for some daft reason
Posted I'm Gerrin giddy earlier in week but also said it's early days. I think were on a rebuild and we need to back Clarke over the next 2 seasons, which means allowing him to develop our players and shed those who won't make it. limited on players coming in but must keep his team together. Mid table for me this season build to challenge season after. ..
I think top 6 is having confidence tbh. Look at the teams next season - Rotherham, Huddersfield, Birmingham, Bolton, Wrexham. All probably with bigger budgets than ours, while we also have a squad to rebuild. I think it would take something incredible to get top 2.
