Looks like we might not have two Barnsley women’s teams in the same league next season. Real shame that. Moving to midlands league and playing out of Sheffield. I wonder if they will keep their name? https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/a...nsley-unlikely-as-one-club-could-move-leagues
Isn't their chairman a massive piggy fowl fan if so playing in dee dar land is quite appropriate maybe they should change they name to Fowl womens FC or something.
Barnsley Women's FC vs Barnsley FC Women, reminds me of Monty Python with The People's Front of Judea and The Judean People's Front.
In mens we can hav 2x sheffield 2x Manchester Liverpool and everton. 2x Nottingham umpteen Birmingham but not 2 barnsley . Figures
I mean there's no conspiracy, it's just that they're low enough down where there's regional leagues and they're probably the southernmost team playing in the Northern league and as such when the leagues are rebalanced to make sure there's the same amount of teams in each they're the ones that move. Same thing happens in the conference north/south
No idea why they’ve been asked to move, and I’m assuming the Club are equally happy to do it. Dunno if it’s an ego thing or what. No idea.
It's commonplace in mens' non-league football, which like the womens' game is controlled by the FA. On promotion or relegation teams are routinely transferred between different leagues simply to maintain a balance of numbers in each division of each league. For just one simple example, the 48 teams in National Leagues North and South (the step below the Conference) has more southern than northern teams, so having 24 teams in each meant the FA placing Bishops Stortford in National League North last season.
Steve is definitely a Barnsley fan. Also other board members are. Playing in Sheffield wasn't what they wanted but they had no choice. Their long term plan is to find somewhere suitable in Barnsley.
Seems a shame they can't combine resources and players somehow to have a strong one club / one town women's team
No love lost between them. Barnsley Womens broke away a few years ago from the club that is now Barnsley FC.
