Exactly the type of player we would have signed once upon a time. Youngish with potential for improvement but plenty of games under his belt.
It shows where our recruitment policy has gone wrong. Just keep getting in same or lesser standard of players and selling ( or trying to sell) them on rather than upping the calibre of signings to improve the team / sell for more money. We should go back to this old policy.

Agree. People reacting like we got outbid by MK for his signature. If we'd wanted him the chances are we'd have landed him. The fact that we didn't try to get him and neither did anyone else at our level is telling. Yes, good players can slip through the net. But in general the people in charge of recruitment at Barnsley FC (and every other professional club in the country) know a hell of a lot more about football than the majority of us on here ever will.
To be fair mate, he's been playing regular football for 4 years now in league one and two. Talking about football & football players is what fans do, players they like, don't like, wanna sign etc. Especially in transfer window.
People reacted to us missing out on about 15 managers whom 'turned us down' before signing Clarke up, bud. Do you really think they'd miss out of an opportunity to have a go at the club when it comes to players?
Would definitely like to see us signing more team captains. We want a team with grit and character - some leaders on and off the pitch.
I agree on that mate, it was our policy a few years back, but this player mentioned?, people talking as if they know he his a good player when they know naff all about him. Poor post for me I am afraid
But that's besides the point mate. It's not as though he's just played 10 minutes, there's 4 years worth of evidence to look at, that's all. it's a football forum in the pre-season, there has been and will continue to be loads of these types of posts

Did you know of him mate?, just asking question, I just think this as arisen because someone has seen he his out of contract(like loads of players are at the end of a season, we had a fair few of them if you remember)
I did know of him, but (even though i literally make football quizzes) I wouldnt know whether he would be good enough for us, think I've seen him probably 3 times in those 4 years if that and not once this past season, so no clue whether he'd be good enough for us or not personally, all i'd be able to go on is word of mouth/reports/stats. I agree with you about the out of contract thing, especially when it's a 'big' name i.e someone who was good 7 year ago, but people havent watched him since then but still grovel for him. It doesn't bother me, a lot of people only watch their respective clubs, but when people start berating the club/staff *because* we haven't signed them, that's when it does my head in bud. People clamouring for this & that freebie and saying why aren't we doing it, if it was that easy every half decent club in this league would do it haha
