Anyone on here go to the gym? I want to join the one in Barnsley Town centre but a bit anxious to be honest
Probably body image. I find the thought very intimidating. All those fit young women and me there with my man boobs and tyres.
Go for it mate I'm sure you will be fine once you get into it , sure you will get a few posers in there but generally people who go to gyms are trying to improve their fitness , lose weight etc and probably won't notice what you are doing. Good luck
I was dreading it years ago when I went at first. There might be 1 whos a d1k. But generally you'll not meet nicer people, they'll either stay out of your way & just concentrate on what they're doing, or if you're wanting/accepting help they'll have no issue helping you. I thought they'd just take the piss but the amount of respect they show to people trying to better themselves really surprised me Hope you decide to go bud!
Just remember, everyone's on a different journey at the gym, the only person you should be comparing yourself with is who you were yesterday, and that you are in the top 10% of people in the country actually stepping foot into a gym, no matter what your level you are lapping everyone sat at home.
I've started walking again. Did 15,000 steps yesterday. It's taking that first step. You don't do that sat in bedroom on social media. Get home from work and force myself out. George loves tractors so went down the lanes to the farm taking pictures of farm machinery.
Metrodome is pretty good, went there for quite a few years until the last lockdown, now I go walking & it's freeeeeeeeeeeee
7 chuffin miles. Think I'll take up taking pictures of farm machinery at the one just round the corner.
You don't notice distance in the country mate. I went round Pontefract racecourse the other day and felt every yard.
Nobody’s looking, seriously. If anything, all the women are trying to avoid any chance of eye contact with anyone.
If you’re worried, consider booking a personal trainer. It’ll stop you feeling like you don’t know what you’re doing, you’ll get great advice which means you’ll progress towards your goals faster and it means you’re not looking around at everyone else and overthinking as you’ll have someone right there to talk to and keep you focused.
It’s normal to be red in a gym so no worries there. Genuinely though, if you stop thinking about everything as sexual all the time you wouldn’t be blushing so much or worrying about what other people doing their own thing are thinking about you. Everyone’s just getting on with their day and are going to be far more worried about how they look (probably a good part of the reason why they go to a gym) to worry about how you look.
Just for context...I used to take my daughter to Bannatynes until about a year ago. She's overweight and has severe mental health issues. She was enjoying swimming until she heard someone in the jacuzzi saying such things as 'look at that fat lump', 'whats she doing here?' to mates. There was laughter and she's never had the courage to go back since. I was in the sauna at the time so I missed it all but the damage was done. Utterly stupid, nasty and illogical crap but its put my daughter off going to the gym to lose weight
Yeah been watching some videos about that on YouTube. It's weird it's only since I've been single. Used to be able to talk to women and not be bothered about the things you mention full stop. Now I can't have the most mundane conversation without thinking do I look like I'm after that person.
Great advice. And as others have pointed out, people in gyms are largely doing their own thing so won't pay any heed to what you're doing. That's the truth. Most are generally happy to help too if you need it.
