I’ve only seen bits of the World Cup so far and wondered who you guys think will win based on current form.
USA and Afghanistan have qualified haven’t they ?
Sorry .. was thinking they were 4 team groups as oppose to 5

 

I haven't watched any of it so far to be honest, apart from some highlights. But I do like it when it gets to the knockout rounds.
And just out of interest, does anybody think the American sports fans will catch on, to the game of Intl cricket ?.

 

Could do if they get through the group stages. The American commentator is very deferential towards the others , seeming to want to help the American audience enjoy the games.

 

USA coach Stuart Law wants England to tour there for some games later this year.

 

It’ll be interesting to see the American viewing figures after the tournament.
Today’s game in New York is a sellout but that’s mainly because of the fierce rivalry between Pakistan and India.
The stadium in Rawalpindi is screening the game live and it’s a sellout and it must be the very early hours of the morning over there.

 

As I like the Nfl 'football' and Wwf wrestling, I agree that the US sports commentators are really good at what they do.
Remember we did all wonder at the time, if they would take to soccer (as they call it), when getting the World cup in '94.

I wish Jerry 'the king' Lawler, and good old JR Jim Ross, would do the commentary for it.

I believe I posted this on an earlier thread, but I doubt that the USA viewing figures will be significant. In Canada and the USA, the games can only be viewed via Willow TV, which is an Indian-based streaming service. I doubt many people over here are aware of this channel, except for the South Asian Expat and Immigrant communities (and me).

A billionaire IPL guy has started Major League Cricket over here. Last year was the first T20 season, and cricket grounds are being built across the country, or as in Texas, old baseball stadiums being converted. Add to this that the ICC purposefully located the tournament here to drive interest, and this should have been more widely promoted.

Why Fox Sports, ESPN, Paramount, CBS / Peacock, etc., the more common sports channels which many Americans will already watch, did not pick up the tournament, is a major faux pas.
