Went last year for the first time as I have always been away on holiday previously. Last year was busy ,but nothing like the scenes outside the garrison around 4pm.
It was just like a festival packed with folk having fun enjoying the singer.
No idea who it was but he got the crowd going thats for sure.
Saturday reminded me of Premier league Saturdays in 1998 .
It was buzzing every week ,Saturday reminded me so much of the good times in town back. then.
Well done to whoever organised it and participated.
Including the public who turned out in numbers.

Barnsley Live is just another feather in Barnsleys cap.Being an oldie i just had a couple of hours in the afternoon on cheap street(Wellington street)then an hour at top of market hill.Whether its true someone who has connections with the council told me that Barnsley Live is the envy of the surrounding towns in s yorks.I know councils get some stick because you cant please everyone but i go to many places watching the reds and there isnt many that compare to our town centre and town hall area.Think they will have to have more marquees next year.

Apparently it was all over Facebook, people from Doncaster and Rotherham criticising their own council's because Barnsley Live has become such a roaring success.

It's a shame the football club doesn't get involved. Oakwell car park would make a great spot for a 'main stage' so to speak. It might even take pressure off town a bit and everywhere being full. That said, I found it busy, but other than in Soul Lounge, I didn't think anywhere was overcrowded to the point it wasn't enjoyable.

Particular highlights for me were, Enis Bakolli in Nail Maker 2, Little Daz Band in the Underground and Civic Green to finish off in the Picture House.

It's an absolute credit to the town.

With Barnsley Live, the Christmas market, the food festival and probably more that I've completely forgotten about all being big successes I hope they try to build on it and really go for it. We've built a town centre that everyone should be proud of and that's really ideal for these kind of things far more than anywhere else near us.

Extending the Christmas market to an entire month would be a wise move. We could really overtake Sheffield Christmas market as the place to be in South York at Christmas.

And I'd be trying my hardest to get a town centre fair back like there used to be when I was a kid. Other towns that have them really get the footfall so it would be great to see us have one too in the sumer or autumn especially as we now have far more open space than there was when it was here during the 90s.

Id also get a move on knocking down the bhs building to create a further open space and as I've said in the past I'd do the same with the big men's menswear shop and the carpark that sits on the old Chicago rock site. Opening up views of the historic buildings on wellington street for anyone entering the town would be a massive plus and would be a perfect location for yet another open space.

Also agree about the club getting involved, either as a main stage or even as a park and ride which would allow the market gate carpark to be used as a stage. If they ever turn the feature lighting back on there it could be a great backdrop

A couple of marquee signings would also be good

Although the ground is adjacent to Tarn centre, I do think it’s a little too far away and would take the ‘falling out of one pub into the next’ feature away from what makes this event unique. I read somewhere a suggestion (probably on here) about taking the event to Locke Park, but again I feel this would ruin the ethos of the event. No doubt the The ‘ marquee’ thingys in the new square helped with the demand. If more open space is needed, then I suggest the Courthouse car park, the Oakwell car park could be used as a park and ride for the shoppers that would otherwise use the Courthouse car park.

It's a fantastic event. One I dont think has an equal, certainly in Yorkshire. Free.
As opposed to eg. Tramlines a pay for event. I get the fact leeds have a festival. But yet again a pay for event. The Underneath the Stars event at Canon hall. Is pricey for the 2 days. But more full time professional acts/bands/arts on show. It appears to be successful, in its 10th year. Our own Kate Rusby and Bill Bailey headliners. This year.
