I’m sure he wishes he never had to do what he did, but still, brilliant news.

I hope he tells them to ******* shove it until everyone is properly compensated and the culprits are prosecuted.

Don’t agree with those stupid obe honours thing but Alan certainly deserves some sort of honour for his battle against those post office scumbags

Talking of honours. If.say someone with the title of Earl was awarded an obe what they then become an earlobe?

I thought Alan Bates was a tv and film actor from the 70s & 80s, is that right, do I win a tenner ?.

The president of the national dyslexic society was presented with an obe.

    His response-

"what's the point of giving me that? I can't play musical instruments "

He’s accepted it I think. He previously refused an OBE on the basis that Vennells still had her CBE

I'm not anti-royal and I liked the honours system, I think its a great way to celebrate great people. The issue, however, is its being handed out to people who actively look out for themselves and their croney mates, and idiots. Love it when genuinely brilliant people achieve it. Such a shame the shine is taken away by bellends though.

Think he's accepted so to disown it if the cover up is not fully exposed.

He played Gabriel Oak in Far from the madding crowd along side Julie Christie.
When he was a little lad he played as Master Bates.

I agree Ian. The best outcome from him has got to be an acceptable settlement for him and those who suffered from this horrendous establishment stitch up.

Post Office executives need to face the full force of the law for their loss of memory and conspiracy to cover up the truth to save their skins.

How can Paula Vennels call herself a Cristian for her callous disregard of the truth and willingness to sacrifice sub postmasters/mistresses for the “good name of the Post Office” and her inability to recognise the truth when giving evidence to the Inquiry.

Thou shalt not bear false witness.

He got the OBE in 2021 and was given a CBE in these awards, there's usually a gap between those honours and the Knighthood which will not be too far away.

I don't agree with some of the to**ers who get them, but they're great recognition for those that deserve them. We've a guy where I live who has an OBE and it's so well deserved...spent his weekends for years running treadmill marathons in the Market place for charity. He's such a good bloke it's hard to comprehend.

He's had three orders in the past decade so he's doing OK. He will get there eventually. Probably in 2027 would be my guess.

Toby Jones played him in that ITV drama Mr Bates v the Post Office. I hadn’t realised just how bad the whole saga had been until I watched that. Very powerful dramatised version of events.

Trouble is mate. It was out in the open in mags like Private eye many years ago. A special 6 page report in 2020. It's a scandal that should have been dealt with many years ago. For it to take a tv series to bring it to the fore just shows how much was going on behind the scenes to keep it under wraps all those years. Early reports in the eye (which I buy on most editions) go back 15 yrs or more.
    Note the date.
