Picture 2 - it seems a bit naff now but as a kid, I used to love how they lined up and waved at the crowd. It was just an 'us' thing.

 

It was something Clarkie brought with him from Leeds.

Alan Little goal at Bournemouth, 2-0 win, April 1979…….We set off from Kexborough Social Club at midnight….bloody long day…the win softened it a bit

 

Remembering Mark Jones who would have been 91 today.

Mark joined Man United's youth side, making his first team debut at the age of 17. He played in 4 of the next 5 seasons, but became a mainstay at centre back only in the 1955/56 campaign, where he collected a league title. Another championship winners' medal followed the next season but he missed out on the 1957 Cup Final due to an eye injury.

Mark was killed instantly on 6th February 1958 at Munich after 121 games and 1 goal for the club, leaving a young son and a pregnant wife, who gave birth to a daughter, 4 months after the disaster

Mark got on the bench for an England international but didn't play unlike his team mate Tommy Taylor.

He is buried in Wombwell Cemetery.

 

The game was on the 18th of March 1950. The Reds won 2-0 with goals scored by Fred Richardson & Billy Deakin.

Remember it well. For the dying minutes of the game you could hardly see the touch line, as many were already over the wall and ready to go on the pitch.
