Both itv and BBC keep telling us that England fans were singing

A chant that authorities have asked them not to sing.

Fair enough

So why play the chant in the background while both news stations are saying that it shouldn't be sang?

 

I doubt people who boo a national anthem are going to take any notice of authorities. No wonder there is so much hate for the English. It's embarrassing.

 

Weren't there boos before our anthem as well ?.
And I thought it was sung really very well by everybody, fans, players, and coaches!.
And what about this planned pre match attack by their so called 'fans'. Where I hope that none of our fans got hurt, or were arrested.

 

I think the Serbians booed pretty much through the whole of our anthem. They were drowned out though

 

I said exactly the same.
In all the games that have played so far ,do you honestly think there as not been any minor skirmishes with pockets of fans fighting.
Look at the England fans ,there proper fans not like the ones 15 years back looking for a fight.
Why focus on the ruck that took place outside the bar ?.
It's because it was the England game.

 

There really hasn't been fights before most games.

English fans are much improved no doubt and the Serbs are probably the worst/most hated fans in the tournament. But this is not a reflection on other nations.

 

I was there last night in and around the stadium. Don’t believe a word you see in the news.

The trouble yesterday was Albanians causing issues with the English in the bar that was reported.

In the ground the Serbs were far worse than us. Boo’d every announcement. When the players came out to look around pre match the Serb players parked up in the England half clearly stopping our players coming over to our fans. Why didn’t they go take in the surroundings in their own half? It was a clear pi55 off the English attempt.

Our lot so well behaved in and around the stadium. The Serbs boo’d everything with us. Players coming out to warm up, the line up announcement, basically anything they put up on screen to the point where right before kick off we’d had enough so boo’d their national anthem.

It’s my first time doing an England game in a competition and we were brilliant as fans. Wouldn’t say it otherwise. The media portray a small thing that happened and tried to blame it on us.

 

Wasn’t that because the Serbs booed ours first?

 

Tbf England football fans always boo opposition anthems regardless.

 

Sorry but your are so wrong here. I’ve travelled to two major tournaments, attended over 40 England games and I can count on 1 hand how many times that has happened. It became a thing during the 2022 euros, and then people have rode a ridiculous propaganda campaign ever since.

 

How do you know, because it's not been highlighted, of course there will have been a punch up somewhere .
Football and alcohol and passion .

 

Most of the Eastern European fans have booked the other anthem.

Don't see why so many people are so touchy about it tbh. Just do the talking with the football and job done.

It's a song at the end of the day, nowt more.

Same touchy folk who take offence at an anthem being booed yet actively swear at opposition players when taking corners and throw ins near them.

 

Just to add. German police said the trouble before the England match was down to Serbs scrapping with Albanians.

No English arrests.

Scotland have had 3 arrested so far.

Always gonna get a few nobheads who can't take a couple of Shandys without causing trouble.

 

Wish they would stop playing (and singing) Sweet Caroline.

 

We stopped in Essen to purposely to avoid being near any potential flashpoints, there was some Serbians on the train before the game who were pleasant……..saw a fair few walking to the station after who smiled, the England fans made lots of noise behind the nets, long may it continue too

 

Just to point out that my post was more about the stupidity of itv and BBC airing the song/chant whilst criticising people for singing it. Seems a little like airing a news story complaining about there being too much nudity on TV these days while showing porn on the screen behind them

 

I must be thick because I don't know which song we're talking about. Don't recall hearing anything offensive during the build up or match.

Unless it's Sweet Caroline, I know a lot of people are getting p'ed off hearing that when England play.
