The central pillar supporting all Liberal policies is being in the EU front and square.

But apart from that you're a liberal.

The best part is that it was a Tory lie anyway. What labour actually wanted was to hold a second referendum now that more facts has been uncovered. Jeremy Corbyn promised to remain neutral and pledged to start the process of leaving the EU immediately upon the result of that referendum with a commitment to be out of the EU within 3 months.

So, a steady hand with the best set of results since 1966.

    I’ll take that.

Never let it be forgotten that the ***** we've endured over the past 12 years was facilitated by the Liberals jumping into bed with the Tories in 2010, seduced by a bunch of promises which turned out to be lies - who'da thought it?

I don’t agree but I guess we all have the right to an opinion. I was talking to an unreconstructed Corbynite today who was expressing a similar opinion to yours. We are on very friendly terms, but I did point out to him that if he really wanted a left wing government he’d probably be best advised to move to another country. Like it or not, we are never going to get a Labour government with the likes of Corbyn leading it. Thankfully, we appear to have moved on and I, for one, feel more hopeful for the future than I have in a very long time.

    ********.

It would have been much worse if the Libs hadn't shut down their more extreme policies.

The Libs offered a pact to Labour first, all they had to do was drop Brown as leader. They wouldn't do that, they went into opposition, they dropped Brown. Idiots.

Gordon Brown is widely credited with helping to prevent the western world’s economy from collapsing. And that was way more important for us mere citizens than any bailout of the banks. If you are referring to the PFI initiative, my recollection is that the honourable member for Hull was its main architect.

And Rishi was a senior partner in a hedge fund that manipulated Abn-Amro into a sale to RBS that caused RBS to fail.

Is that a fact? I’ve never heard that story before and thought they went to the Tories first as they got the most MPs.

Your opinion and as you've said we're all entitled to one but there's a problem with your view just as there is with your mate's view. If Labour do nothing or very little because they're cautious or afraid of being left -wing many of the problems which the country is suffering from will get nowhere near being addressed. This will cause further disillusion and will play directly into the hands of the right who will use it to victim blame, divide and scapegoat people and hammer Labour at the next election. The electorate is fracturing because there's unhappiness, worry and a sense of hopelessness. If Labour do little to change this mood when in power when they should be bold and 'left-wing' they'll be handing the initiative to Farage and Braverman. You have a point but I suspect your mate does too. And as an aside it was a bit patronising was it not to suggest to your mate that he should move to another country for supporting a socialist politician?

lol I nearly said I’m surprised you didn’t say move to Cuba , the age old barb of a Thatcherite, I’m on good terms with a lot of right wingers half of them still in the Labour Party !! Just look at some of the candidates being put up by Labours Head Office , the guy against Corbyn is an active NHS privatiser . Anyway let’s hope Starmer doesn’t snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory , I’m not convinced

But that wouldn't have given them enough seats to gain power would it? Still wouldn't have had a majority

The idea we’d rejoin the eu is scaremongering for the reform party. There’s no way we’d agree to the rules as a new member of the eu - which would include a commitment to join euro. More likely we’ll stump up some cash to get some kind of free’r market access- which would be a darn site better then the hard brexit Bonking Boris “delivered”.

It would have required Green, Plaid Cymru, SNP help too.
